Eric Gagne to sign with Brewers
BBTF's Baseball Primer Newsblog —
Eric Gagne to sign with Brewers The Gagne Assumption...it’s all true. A little more than a week after losing closer Francisco Cordero to a four-year contract with the Cincinnati Reds, the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday morning were near a contract agreement with veteran reliever Eric Gagne, according to an industry source. Terms of the contract were unavailable, but it is likely to be for one year. ...The addition of Gagne should put Riske, Turnbow and Torres into setup roles, though the Gagne signing is not without risk. After two injury-plagued seasons, Gagne had a 2.16 ...

That was fun... this is now
The GYS Network —
Evidence of more "blocking and tackling" work done by boy-genius. Offering arbitration to Gagne sounded risky to the Fenway faithful, but if Gagne jumped ship it would net us sandwich-picks (if I've got this crap correct). After last season, I think everyone in Green Monstah territory would agree that a sandwich pick is better than Gagne at this point. Tim Brown is reporting the Brew Crew is close to inking a deal. Gagne would fill the hole left by Francisco Cordero who signed with the Reds for a 4-year deal. God speed good sir. I hope his career bounces back, because I honestly have no reason to hate him other than the fact that he ...
Gagne to Close in Milwaukee
MLB FLEECE FACTOR: Providing MLB rumors and deciding who gets FLEECED. —
Give credit to Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports for reporting that Eric Gagne is very close to signing a 1 year deal with the Milwaukee Brewere to become the team’s closer.
On the heels of signing David Riske to a longer term deal last week, Milwaukee is putting together a pretty nice bullpen, which also includes the inconsistent, yet talented Derrick Turnbow. Gagne is a great option for the Brewers after losing their closer from last season, Francisco Cordero, to the division rival Reds.
Brewers Closing In On Gagne
Eli's MLB Rumors —
The Brewers are closing in on a one year deal with Eric Gagne, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports. The Brewers are already improving their bullpen with David Riske, Salomon Torres, and now Eric Gagne. I think Gagne will thrive with in Milwaukee where the media will not be all over the team. Unlike Boston, he will be able to enjoy and thrive in a stadium where the fans aren't always on you. The signing of Gagne could suggest a trade involving Derrick Turnbow, but I doubt it. I think they want to have the best pitching in the NL Central, because that is probably what will win the division. They have not said whether or not they will pursue more ...
The Daily Round-up (12/08/07)
New York Mets —
Around the League:
The Milwaukee Brewers are close to signing RHP Eric Gagne. The terms are unclear, but it is believed that it will be a one-year deal.
This comes a week after losing Francisco Cordero to the Reds. Looks like the Brewers are moving on to plan-B… I’ve heard some fans talk about giving Eric Gagne a shot. I think he would have been too much of a gamble for a team like the Mets… Gagne was downright awful after being traded to the Red Sox last year.
In a bizarre turn of events, Salomon Torres is considering retirement following yesterday’s trade sending him to Milwaukee. ...
Something Brewing with Gagne?
MVN Outsider —
Eric Gagne may be just about to sign with the Milwaukee Brewers for a single year, after the Texas Rangers—for whom he rolled sixteen saves and a 2.16 ERA in the first half of 2007—shied from a two-year pact.
This could be an insurance move for the Brewers, who swapped for Pittsburgh Pirates righthander Salomon Torres and now have to wonder whether Torres might call it a career, the pitcher saying he wanted to talk it over with his family who remain anchored in the Pittsburgh area.
Once the most feared closer in the National League (152 saves in 2002-2004, including a major league record-busting 84 consecutive saves), Gagne’s ...
