Ian Kennedy to pitch Thursday against Rays, ARod Still Hurt (Updated)
Published 5/12/2008 by Brent Nycz at The Bronx Block
... that Kennedy will go Thursday against the Rays, and Rasner will face the Mets. Smart move by the Yankees, allowing Kennedy’s return to be in a situation fraught with less pressure than a Subway Series start, while seeing if Rasner can handle the spotlight. In other news, Alex Rodriguez will not be activated when he is eligible to come off the DL on Thursday, according to Pete Abraham. He will miss the series against the Mets, as an MRI did not show enough improvement for him to play in rehab games at this juncture. ...

A-Rod To Miss Subway Series
Published 5/12/2008 by Greg Cohen (noreply@blogger.com) at Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog
From Peter Abraham: The MRI taken today on Alex Rodriguez revealed progress but not enough to start playing in rehab games. Joe Girardi just told the media that Rodriguez will not be activated this week, meaning he’s out for the Mets series. “We can’t afford to have him come back for two days then lose him for six weeks,” Girardi said. “We want to have him fully healed.” Girardi did say that A-Rod may be able to play in an extended spring training game at the end of this week. ...

... According to Peter Abraham at the LoHud Yankees Blog (The Journal News), MRI results on Alex Rodriguez’ injured quad showed progress, but the All-Star third baseman is not yet ready to play in any rehab games. A return this week has been ruled out, and he isn’t expected back for about another week now. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said, “We can’t afford to have him come back for two days then lose him for six weeks. We want to have him fully healed.” ...

A-Rod out longer
Published 5/13/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Andrew Fletcher) at Scott Proctor's Arm - A New York Yankees Blog
I saw this last night, but wasn't around long enough to post it. Good thing I missed the game too. This team is flat-out boring. Alex Rodriguez is progressing slower than expected and will miss at least the rest of this week (including the always overblown Subway Series). Rushing him back is the reason why his injury became more severe, so it's good to see that they are at least being more cautious this time around. To say that the Yankees are desperately missing Rodriguez is an understatement. For every game that the lineup puts together ...

THT Live:Team Defense is Incredibly Underrated

Jeff Sullivan and I were looking around Baseball-Reference's team BABIP numbers a bit and, to paraphrase Jeff's words : Part of it has to do with the batted ball profile yielded by the pitching staff, but if the Rays keep up their current pace, their 2008 defense would be 248 plays better than their 2007 defense would be with the same pitching staff. Using Tango's number that 1 extra out ~ ...
