... Apropos of nothing, Diamondbacks pitcher Micah Owings hit a game-tying, opposite-field, pinch-hit home run yesterday. That's so awesome. Owings is now hitting .421 this year.

How sweet would it be to represent an MLB starting pitcher? Now image that the pitcher can hit too. Not only hit, but crush the ball. Well that is exactly what Scott Boras has in Micah Owings. Not only is Owings a solid 4 or 5 starter, but he can hit in the 9 spot or even pinch hit like we saw last week.

1 st place: Diamondbacks at 21-10. Up until last night, they hadn’t reached double digits in the loss column. For 5 weeks of play, that’s pretty damn good. Brandon Webb, Dan Haren and Micah Owings are beasts. Micah Owings also keeps pinch-hitting, just like Adam Wainwright does for the Cardinals. Those two can pinch-hit me. (wait…what?) Well, that was a crazy game, wasn’t it? A marquee pitching matchup that was as good as advertised gave way to all sorts of late-inning insanity. Pardon the non-Mets related note but this guy is too impressive not to address. Last night Diamondbacks pitcher Micah Owings was put in to pinch hit in the sixth inning, with two runners own and the D-Backs down 2 runs. Owings responded with a home run.
