Today, we say goodbye to Big Sed, LoJack, Keith Rivers, CW and John David Booty among others as they play in their last game at USC. There's no question which team is better, just as there wasn't before the game. That said, I think Illinois would beat $C probably 10-20% of the time, and experience was a big factor. Maybe the mood was different on TV, but there was a real sense of momentum in stadium when Illinois was driving to make the score 21-17. Three plays were the difference in the game. The Trojans took advantage of turnovers on three consecutive Illini possessions, the first coming on a play deep in USC's red zone, to turn a somewhat close game into an unmitigated pistol-whipping, 49-17 . The first half is in the books, and USC has dominated en route to a 21-3 halftime score. This is probably a feeling that's distinctive only in the Midwest and West Coast but the Rose Bowl always tops my viewing list regardless of who's playing. Although, the Trojans Song Girls help. The largest spread of all bowls, 14.5 points, very few people give the Illini any chance of keeping this close, myself included. The vast majority of people seem convinced that the USC Trojans will win the Rose Bowl today. At the risk of cementing their anticipated victory, I am going to disagree. I am not tremendously confident, however, that Illinois can get it done.
