Garrard, Jaguars closing in on new, lucrative deal
Quarterback David Garrard and the Jacksonville Jaguars are closing in on a new contract that would be the richest in franchise history and could be finalized as early as this week. The two sides have been working diligently toward an agreement since the end of the season. They met face to face in Indianapolis at the scouting combine last month, and have exchanged contract proposals this week. ... [link]

GARRARD, JAGS CLOSE TO A NEW DEAL
Published 3/19/2008 by Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com
A year ago, the quarterback who was supposed to be working out a long-term deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars is a guy named Byron Leftwich. And what a difference a year makes. Leftwich was dumped by coach Jack Del Rio nine days before the regular-season opener, and Leftwich currently is unemployed.  His replacement, David Garrard, was solid.  And is now poised to get paid. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Jaguars and Garrard are close to hammering out a new contract ...

NEARLY HALF A BILLION, AND COUNTING
Published 3/19/2008 by Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com
With the contract to which new Steelers center Justin Hartwig agreed on Tuesday, agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus have negotiated deals this year worth more than $440 million . Though that number reflects the total value of every contract, including the phony back-end fluff that as to many long-term deals will never be paid, it’s a staggering sum — especially for what essentially is a two-man operation. Surely, the Rosenhauses will continue to be controversial figures in NFL circles.  Their ever-growing client list makes them an even bigger target for attack by other agents.  But, actually, they seem to get their motivation and energy from the notoriety.   And like them or ...

NO KNEE SURGERY FOR DORSEY?
Published 3/19/2008 by Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com
In response to a suggestion on Jaguars.com that LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey had knee surgery, Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Dorsey didn’t. Citing two unnamed sources, Schefter says that the surgery didn’t happen . That’s contrary to a notion floated on Monday by Vic Ketchman of Jaguars.com.  “ The risk with Dorsey is a mysterious knee injury ,” Ketchman wrote.  “Dorsey hasn’t run for the scouts and there’s suspicion that he’s undergone knee surgery.” Though Ketchman presumably isn’t taking his marching orders from the team that signs his paychecks, it sure is tempting for us to think that Ketchman’s arguably defamatory comment was part of a plan ...

Did Draft Stud Dorsey Have Knee Under The Knife?
Published 3/19/2008 by jason at SPORTSbyBROOKS
Did prized pro prospect Glenn Dorsey have knee surgery? A writer for Jaguars.com says yes , while an NFL Network scribe says no . Mike Florio of PRO FOOTBALL TALK points out the perplexing opinions of Vic Ketchman and Adam Schefter on the leg strength of the purported top-5 pick of the NFL Draft. In analyzing possible defensive picks for the Jags, Ketchman lists his concerns about the LSU lineman: He plays hard, plays smart and plays hurt. The risk with Dorsey is a mysterious knee injury. Dorsey hasn’t run for the scouts and there’s suspicion that he’s undergone knee surgery. Questions about his knee and speed must be answered prior to the draft. But ...

Jaguars, David Garrard Close to Contract
Published 3/19/2008 by Michael David Smith at FanHouse
Filed under: JaguarsJacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard is close to signing a contract that would lock him in as the team's franchise quarterback for years to come, NFL.com is reporting. The contract could be signed as soon as this week, and while we don't know many details of the deal, it seems safe to say that Garrard will get somewhere between $20 million and $30 million guaranteed. Garrard can't expect to get the $36 million guaranteed that Ben Roethlisberger, who is younger and has accomplished more, received from the Steelers this off-season. But it's realistic for him to think he'll get more than the $14.5 million ...
