SMUGGLING CUBANS VS. CUBAN SMUGGLING

... Dominguez denied breaking the law at his trial.. Hmmm you don’t say.. There’s no mention of which teams were interested in the kidnapped exported players, but after a week and a half it looks like the Giants, Nationals, and Phillies could really use them. The Royals belong on that list too but they’re small market and all of there money is tied up here.

... . It makes for an unwieldy bench for Jim Leyland but he'll be assured of having a killer pinch-hitter in that pitcher's spot from both sides of the plate. We're also shy a Royal, the only team that's without a representative at this point. There are three possibilities; John Buck, Mark Teahen and Gil Meche are all turning in good seasons for Kansas City. We've got enough outfielders and two fine catchers so we'll take Meche as a reward for ignoring everyone, us included, who pilloried his massive contract. The final spot should go to the best player not yet on the team and as much as we expect Leyland to recognize his second baseman Placido Polanco we can't ignore the excellent effort put forth by ...

... That's not meant to discredit Gil Meche's pitching performance. He was definitely on, throwing hard and mixing in a slick curveball. And for whatever reason, he loves pitching in Detroit. In his last four starts at Comerica Park, Meche has a 1.50 ERA. Maybe he wants to work fast so he can grab a couple of Coneys after the game. Who knows? ...
Meche Can't Buy a Break

... Gil Meche was good again last night. Just not good enough. He gave up two earned runs in six innings. But when Neal Musser served up a double to Bobby Abreu in the seventh inning to drive in Derek Jeter, the evil Yankees scored what turned out to be the winning run. In case you are wondering, Gil Meche has received the lowest run support in the American League this season. If you look at his last six starts, he gave up three runs once and two runs five times and he still doesn't have a win to show for it. ...
