... all need to be predicated on wins and losses, although glory and defeat are a main factor. Rivalries exist for numerous on and off court reasons and can be temporary or stand the test of time. Rivalries can form when one set of fans has a reason to dislike another team or player. Fans in Portland and Phoenix weren't exactly endearing towards Arenas when he targeted them for scoring milestones. And there can't be love for Gil from the Durham end of Tobacco Road.
