WaPo: Gilbert Arenas Wants to Buy the Bonds Ball (RR)

WaPo: Gilbert Arenas Wants to Buy the Bonds Ball (RR) What s Eating Gilbert s Shrunken Grapes? It s history, Gil began. It s still history. I mean, the guy s a man before he s some big slugger. I mean, how you just going to take what this man s done for his career and, as another man, say Hey, you were accused of this, you allegedly did this, I want to take this away from you. I mean, what if we took away your Ecko company? I mean, why graffiti the ball when, in everybody s mind, they think he s done it. So no matter what, when they look at the ball, they re gonna be like, Oh, he allegedly....You don t have to mark it in history. Like, who are you? Are you Superman? You re sitting here throwing all the rockets into space: I want to send it to space? Are you serious? Like, come on. Someone asked whether Gilbert thought Ecko was just a hater. I don t know what his relationship is to Bonds ...

Gilbert Comes to Barry’s Rescue*
Published 9/29/2007 by Larry Brown at Larry Brown Sports
... Well, I guess that headline would be misleading, considering Gilbert hasn’t quite come to Barry’s rescue just yet. But he wants to. At least that’s what he told DC Sports Bog (& Grill) man Dan Steinberg. Apparently Gil’s incensed by Marc Ecko’s plan to brand the 756 ball with an asterisk and send it to the Hall and wants to buy the ball from Ecko. Gil’s reason: ...

The Dollar With a Donut in the Middle
Published 9/30/2007 by Bethlehem Shoals at freedarko.com
At this point in his career, a bonkers utterance from Gilbert Arenas counts for very little. I know plenty of weird people; what has always drawn me to Arenas is that his basketball participation smacks of weirdness. Anyone can quip to cameras or come up with internet folk wisdom. There's nothing at stake there. But shit that matters—decisions on the court, mindset going into a game, dynamic of an offense—isn't to be tampered with lightly. It's Arenas's willingness to (or inability to not) see these things as elastic that continually astounds me. If you had to boil down the professional basketball equation to basic elements, they would be performance and money. Which is why, with this Bonds ball comments , I believe we're turning over a new leaf of Gilbertology, one that could once restore his rightful status as seer and take him off the sideshow circuit. There were inklings of this in ...

Agent Zero stays true to the Bay Area
Published 10/24/2007 by 100% Injury Rate at 100% Injury Rate
... It seems Agent Zero, once the only reason to watch the Dubs play, is ready to come back to town with a brand new shoe. The 756 shoe. That's right, as you may remember, Gilbert wasn't a big fan of Mark Ecko branding the ball. He wanted to buy it back from the fashion fool so the ball could go to Cooperstown untouched. Gilbert even offered $800,000 to get it back. But since Ecko appears not to be interested, Agent Zero is taking matters into his own hands. ...
