Ryne Nelson Lightening and thunder *do* go hand-in-hand, but I feel like they can co-exist. Let's wait a few hours and see how similar the logos (and mascots) are.

... HUGE Logo Leak!!!! [The Oklahoma City NBA Sports Blog....to the Max!!!]
If it is indeed the Oklahoma City Thunder, what happens to the Warriors' mascot? [GSW Examiner]
Okay I know it's giving up a TON, but I'm willing to give up the naming rights for Thunder (we can call him "Bolt" or something like that) to the thieves in OKC in exchange for Kevin Durant. OKC- make the trade quick before it's off the table!
Thunder- please forgive me man. I hate to do you in like that, but KD is going to be All-NBA someday. It could prevent 12 year playoff ...
Rumors and Free Agent Updates - OKC's Big Day Edition
LOY's PLACE a celtics green blog —
... Today is the day that the Oklahoma City franchise unveils their colors, logo and team name. A big day for Oklahoma City as they take the next step toward moving the franchise from Seattle to their new haunts. It isn't much of a secret that the team will more than likely be called the Thunder as there have been leaks to that effect for weeks. This may not sit well with the Golden State Warriors whose official NBA mascot is named Thunder and their logo features Thunder holding a lightning bolt. It will be interesting to see if the Warriors file a complaint since the OKC team ...
First Cup: Wednesday
ESPN.com - TrueHoop —
... Matt Steinmetz of The Examiner: "The NBA team in Oklahoma City will get its official nickname on Wednesday, and all indications are that it will be 'Thunder.' That's right: Thunder. That decision probably didn't sit well with the Golden State Warriors. Not to mention the guy who wears the suit. Why? Because 'Thunder' is the name of the official Warriors team mascot -- NBA-approved, by the way. Not only that, the image of Thunder is prominent in the Warriors' primary logo -- the one with him holding the lightning bolt above the word 'Warriors.' ... Let's ...
OKC Thunder Stealing Warriors Mascot
Dime Magazine —
... But that doesn’t just mean you cast him aside, right? It will be interesting to see how the NBA handles this little issue … if at all. Can it really have a team in one city with the nickname of “Thunder,” and an official NBA mascot for another team named “Thunder?” That doesn’t seem right. Unless there’s some kind of trade brewing. Let’s put it this way, the Warriors better be getting something out of this. And hopefully it’s not at the expense of the guy in the suit. Source: Examiner.com

'Thunder' only happens when its raining mascots
Ball Don't Lie —
Sorry about that headline, gang. It was a rather pathetic attempt to link to this. I'll punch myself in the Fleetwood Macs. Anyway, Matt Steinmetz at The Examiner (via First Cup) is sure fired up about this OKC nickname/mascot nonsense. Catch his fire: "The NBA team in Oklahoma City will get its official nickname on Wednesday, and all indications are that it will be 'Thunder.' That's right: Thunder. Rumor: Thunder to be moved in multi-mascot deal.
Fear The Beard —
Thunder, you might want to start packing your bags. Your future is pretty unsure now that the recently relocated and renamed Sonics are officially the Oklahoma City Thunder.
According to Matt Steinmetz, it seems that the Warriors may have some legal ground to protect their investment. Or, at least receive some reciprocation to forfeit the overactive blue dude. Apparently the team mascot and logo that includes said bolt-toting hero are both “NBA-approved”.

‘OKC Thunder’ it Is
SLAM Online —
by Marcel Mutoni
At long last, the world’s worst-kept secret is out of the bag: The NBA’s newest team officially has a name, the OKC Thunder.
Now the question becomes, What the hell to do about the Warriors’ mascot, whose name was jacked by Clay Bennett and co.?
Welcome to the NBA: The Thunder?
Sports of Boston —
... Matt Steinmetz over at the “Golden State Warriors Examiner” seems concerned with the conflict between the Warriors and the possible Thunder logo (see above). The Warriors logo has a lightning blot, which would make sense with the Thunder as well. This story certainly bears watching… ...
Will Clay Bennett Steal Golden State's Mascot?
FanHouse —
Filed under: SuperSonics, Warriors, Western, NBA Videos Clay Bennett and his cronies officially confirmed the league's worst kept secret today by announcing that his franchise has been dubbed the Oklahoma City Thunder. So does this mean after stealing basketball from Seattle he now has his sights on Golden State's mascot? After all, Thunder, seen above destroying Harry the Hawk in a dance competition during the 2007 All-Star Weekend, has been the Warriors' mascot for over a decade. From Matt Steinmetz of the Examiner (via GSoM): It will be interesting to see how the NBA handles this little issue ... if at all. Can it really ...
