[Update] Helene St James of the Detroit Free Press reports that Detroit Red Wings assitant coach Todd McLellan will be named as the new head coach in San Jose tomorrow. After two days of interviews earlier this week in San Jose, McLellan reportedly agreed to a three year deal and cancelled an interview later this week in Atlanta. Kuklas spread the word [via the Freep] to the hockey world that Red Wings assistant coach Todd McLellan has accepted the head coaching position with the San Jose Sharks. The Mercury News has a good overview of why he was a highly qualified candidate for the job opening.
McLellan, 40, has been an assistant to Babcock for the past three seasons. Before that, McLellan was coach of the Houston Aeros and led that American Hockey League team to the Calder Cup title in 2003.
