Gophers get Verdell Jones, 2008-2009 roster presumably set Links1
The Gophers got their man, incoming freshman point guard Verdell Jones, over Kentucky and Indiana. Sources, including radio station KFAN, are saying that Jones will announce his intention to play for the Gophers during his Monday afternoon press conference. Arizona was his first choice, but earlier this week it became clear that Wildcat coach Lute Olson was content with his current roster and ... [link]

All Signs Indicate Verdell Jones Will Be A Gopher
Published 5/2/2008 by PJS at PJS: Minnesota Golden Gophers Sports
... If ESPN's analysis is accurate, Jones will make a nice back court partner for Al Nolen. Nolen, primarily a defensive point guard, needs help running the show. Having an offensive oriented point guard can work to solve many of the Gophers' scoring woes. I agree with the blogger at From the Barn, who wrote that he is pleased the sixth member of the class will be a ball-handler insetad of a big man. The Gophers do need both, but the guard play had the potential to be a huge weakness next season with only guards Nolen, Lawrence Westbrook, Blake Hoffarber and Devoe Joseph on the ...

Whiff. Verdell to Gaydiana.
In case you missed it, Verdell Jones committed to Indiana today, as reported by the Bear in the comments section below. This comes as somewhere between a major and a minor surprise, as Minnesota was reported as the "prohibitive favorite" this weekend after Jones cancelled his visit to Arizona. I'm not exactly certain what the attraction is to go to IU here, unless he's going with a Kris ...
Crean nabs another for ‘08: Champaign’s Verdell Jones
Score another one for Tom Crean and the Hoosiers as 6-4 160-pound Verdell Jones of Champaign, Ill., has chosen to join IU in the class of ‘08. He picked the Cream and Crimson over Minnesota and Kentucky. Jones had this to say to the Champaign News-Gazette via e-mail: “I have chosen to attend Indiana University to be a future Hoosier under Coach Tom Crean,” Jones wrote in ...
Verdell in Action
In honor of the alleged forthcoming Verdell Jones III signing with the Gophers, I present a video I found on this awesome new website called "Youtube." It is a matchup of former Arizona PG Jerryd Bayless vs. futuer Minnesota PG Verdell Jones. It's a year and a half old, but it still shows some things. The main thing you can see from the video is just how awesome Jerryd Bayless was. The whole ...
Jones to Indiana
Key words when making a prediction on a blog, or analyzing this year’s Democratic primary: apparent presumably likely assuming probable prospective I clearly should have used more. Good luck to Verdell and the crumbling Hoosier program. Playing time is good, but not if its because everyone else got kicked off the team.
And Verdell Jones Chooses ....
Verdell Jones is set announce his college choice at 5 p.m. central time today at a press conference. All signs still indicate he will be coming to the Gophers, but Indiana and Kentucky are big players in the race for, arguably, the best point guard still available for the 2008 recruiting class. I'll update this as soon as his decision is public.
Friday Randomness
First of all, if you missed it below, all signs indicate Verdell Jones will commit to the Gophers on Monday, giving Tubby Smith a six-man 2008 recruiting class. We can debate whether the Gophers would have been better off signing a big man or a point guard with this scholarship, but either way Tubby is doing what he needed to do--drastically improve the talent level on Minnesota's roster. More ...
Verdell Jones a Gopher?
According to gopherhole.com (which sited KFAN and gopher illustrated) Verdell Jones will be committing to the U of M on Monday. If this is true then Tubby, then Tubby solidified the back court. The gophers will now have 2 true point guards which has probably never happened in the history of the program. I'm not sure what exactly Tubby brings to the table that past gopher coaches lacked but ...
