As advertisements go, the Islanders' 3-0 loss to the Devils and goaltender Martin Brodeur last night in their only preseason appearance at Nassau Coliseum wasn't exactly what they needed to boost ticket sales. The crowd was announced as 9,701, which must have included a couple thousand no-shows, and it's not likely to grow much if the rebuilding Islanders don't display more firepower in the future.
