Patrick +1Payton wasn't that great in his first go-around with the Celtics. I'm guessing three years hasn't done his game any favors. Maybe if he was cool with coming off the bench for 15 minutes a game, but I doubt that's what the Glove's looking for. -
chone I believe he and Glen Rivers don't get along too well either. It's time for Rondoism. -
rusty weathers What, Reggie Miller wasn't available? At 39, Payton is more sieve than glove.

Not only would he give Rondo some relief off the bench, but he would also teach Rondo a great deal about the game (Payton is a 17 year veteran). For his career, Payton has averaged 6.7 assists per game. He will be able to channel these skills through Rondo and show him how to dish the ball more effectively to one of the Big Three. He's got one other golden point about the value Payton could have to this Celtics line-up: The great thing about Payton is that he has played this role before. He has been on two separate teams with multiple superstars (Lakers: Kobe/Shaq, Heat: Wade/Shaq), so he knows how to get the stars the ball and get out of the ...
