Good morning from the Gary Sheffield International Airport here in Tampa.
Sheff, as you may know, grew up in Tampa. He once told the beat writers that Tampa was such a tough town that he knew guys who would kill you for a ham sandwich. This, presumably, was before they put in all the chain ...

Visit from the Boss
baseballmusings.com —
George Steinbrenner stopped by the Yankees clubhouse Wednesday night:
It was interesting seeing the reaction the Yankees had to George Steinbrenner last night. For Derek, Jorge, Andy and Mo, it was like old times. They have vivid memories of Steinbrenner being in the clubhouse all the time. But for the newcomers, seeing Steinbrenner was like spotting J.D. Salinger.
“It was pretty cool,” CC Sabathia said. “He was very friendly.”
Friendly? Hope Ed Whitson didn’t read that.
Some of the younger players, including Phil Hughes, met The Boss for ...
Grandpa Yankee Makes An Appearance
Fack Youk —
... "It was an honor to meet him", and CC Sabathia thought he was "friendly". If this was ten, twenty or thirty years ago instead, The Boss would have probably been instrumental in trying to bring them to the team, his visit would have been punctuated by a "got get 'em" type of speech and I highly doubt "friendly" would have been on the list of adjectives used to describe the man. Certainly not by his employees or the beat writers: ...

Steinbrenner sued over YES idea
riveraveblues.com 8/30/2009 — By many accounts, the YES Network has been one of the greatest Yankee success stories of the last ten years (and I’m not just saying that because of our affiliation with them). The regional sports network has garnered high ratings for its games ...

Steinbrenner Yankeeography Well Done, Very Funny
noyoureatowel.net 9/12/2009 — I just finished watching YES Yankeeography on George Steinbrenner. The best part about it, I think, was ...
