Myers Says What Phillies Fans Were Thinking Regarding Cole Hamels
The700Level.com - Philly Sports & Minutiae —
But that doesn't make it right. On an otherwise joyous evening, it pained me to read that Brett Myers and Cole Hamels had a "short but tense confrontation" after the game five victory. Here's how Yahoo! reports it going down, "As Myers walked past Hamels near Hamels’ locker he said, mocking, 'What are you doing here? I thought you quit.' Hamels, the witness said, responded with an expletive." At least Hamels responded with some fire? Whether you like it or not, we may not have seen the last of Hamels. Not the brightest move on Myers part. Not exactly shocking either. Sorry to be a downer. How 'bout Chase Utley? ...
Brett Myers Continues To Pick On The Frail
Can't Stop The Bleeding —
Shortly after the Phillies kept their World Series hopes alive with an 8-5 win over the Yankees at CBP, reliever Brett Myers (above) helpfully answered the question, “what sort of absolute cretin would take genuine offense at Cole Hamels bemoaning postseason pressure?“ From Yahoo Sports’ Tim Brown
As Myers walked past Hamels near Hamels’ locker he said, mocking, “What are you doing here? I thought you quit.”
Hamels, the witness said, responded with an expletive.
Before the situation escalated, Myers was guided away by a team official.
Time For Some Action
PhoulBallz.com —
Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown reported, following the Phillies World Series game 5 victory, that Phillies pitchers Cole Hamels and Brett Myers had a confrontation in the team's clubhouse that was only verbal and was defused before it escalated further. The exchange stemmed from Hamels' comments to a reporter after his game 3 loss on Saturday. Hamels, in regards to his rough and rugged season said, "I can't wait for it to end." The remark was taken somewhat out of context, as Hamels meant to speak of his struggles, not necessarily about his team's season. The story Brown reports says that Myers asked Hamels, "What are you doing here? I thought you quit." ...
Game 5: Phils Hang On- Barely
Mike Silva's New York Baseball Digest —
The Phillies came out firing early on all cylinders and struggled late to hold on. Although this was a formula for success you have to wonder if it will work in the Yankees favor back at the Stadium. With Pedro Martinez and TBD starting Games 6 and 7 the Phils must replicate last nights game.
Although I have my concerns about Andy Pettitte on short rest the specter of CC Sabathia looms in a winner take all Game 7. Can the Phillies honestly think they will score 6 or more runs against either of those pitchers? I have my doubts. If the Phils are to win they will need to nail down a close one – like what tonight became. It appears that Charlie Manuel has ...

Welcome to Tuesday’s Morning Mashup, where we’ll get you caught up on what’s going on in the sports world and beyond.
BASEBALL: Maybe the Philadelphia Inquirer knew something. Yesterday, the paper apologized for accidentally running an ad for Phillies World Series championship gear. Last night, the Phillies beat the Yankees, 8-6, to close to within a game.
Not all is well with the Phillies, as there’s a report that Brett Myers and Cole Hamels got into a dispute after last night’s win. Apparently, Myers instigated the argument by saying something to Hamels in reference to a comment Hamels ...
Phillies Victory Does Not Cure Clubhouse Problems
Fenway West - A Boston Red Sox Blog —
After last night's game relief pitcher Brent Myers walked past Cole Hamels and said, "What are you doing here? I thought you quit.” This led to Hamels swearing at Myers before they were separated.
Yesterday Hamels said he wished the season would be over because it has been so difficult for him. This has made it so that the Phillies have a roster spot being filled by a pitcher that may not want to be there. Hamels is a guy that Manuel would normaly turn to in the series reaches a game seven but that is not likely to happen now.

Cole Hamels is Making Friends Fast
Bob's Blitz —
[image] Phillies pitcher Brett Myers walked past Cole Hamels after World Series game 5 and asked, “What are you doing here? I thought you quit.”Hamels responded with an expletive. Hey, that's more fire than when he said, “I can’t wait for it to end. It’s been mentally draining. At year end, you just can’t wait for a fresh start.” But you wonder if he talks to his grandma in San Diego using Comcast Digital Voice like that. Return to Bob's Blitz homepage.

Hamels and Myers exchange words
Phillies Nation —
According to Yahoo! Sports, Brett Myers and Cole Hamels reportedly exchanged some heated words in the clubhouse following the Phillies 8-6 win on Monday night.
Myers basically asked Hamels what he was doing there, following Hamels’ remarks a day earlier about wanting the season to end. Hamels then followed that up with an expletive aimed at Myers, and Myers was then removed from the clubhouse.
According to the Twitter of Leslie Gudel of Comcast SportsNet, Gudel claims Myers was in a joking mood as she stood next to the two players.
The feeling here is that the Hamels words have been taken out of context, although in no way ...
Quotes From Last Night: Game 5 Edition
Fack Youk —
A.J. Burnett: I just couldn't get the ball where I wanted to. Everything was up, I had no hook tonight and strike one is huge, especially against a lineup like that. You've got to get ahead and I didn't do that... It's just a matter of throwing strikes. You guys saw it — there's really no rest issue. I felt strong and felt great. I just didn't get it done... Oh, I mean, it's the worst feeling in the world. I let 25 guys down, I let the city down. Pretty much says it all. Phil Coke: I want the ball again (in Game 6). That's the only thing I'm thinking about. Joe Girardi: If we would have pitched today, we ...
Can We Please Have A Game 7?
Bugs & Cranks —
There is nothing better in sports life than one singular game that determines an entire season.
That’s why we LOVE the Super Bowl. That’s why Game 163 is always remembered as the best game of that regular season. That’s why we go nuts over the NCAA basketball tournament. That’s why we would love the BCS Championship game… if only they had a selection process that made a fraction of sense.
One game, winner-take-all, is the best piece of drama you’ll find anywhere. Just for the reason alone any and all fans not affiliated with the New York Yankees should be pulling for a Game 7 in this World Series. ...
Update: Myers says no confrontation with Hamels
phillyBurbs.com: Phils-ville RSS feed —
The Inky's Andy Martino blogs that the Brett Myers/Cole Hamels post-game confrontation last night that was reported by Yahoo Sports and that we blogged about earlier never happened. Highlights from Martino's post: Glad we have clarification on that. But I still maintain that if such an exchange DID happen, it might not be the worst thing. Onward and upward to the Bronx...
Myers Denies Confrontation with Hamels
The700Level.com - Philly Sports & Minutiae —
Andy Martino, of a newspaper website, goes all "an Internet report" on Yahoo!'s Tim Brown when debunking his story about the "confrontation" that took place between Brett Myers and Cole Hamels following last night's victory. Martino talked to a Phillies representative and Myers himself and both denied any dustup with Myers being quotes as saying, “There was no confrontation whatsoever." As of noon today, Tim Brown has not updated his story. The fact that Myers says all is fine and that there's no bad blood between teammates heading into a pivotal game six is a good thing for this team in my opinion. Everybody has to be out for the same goal ...
