 Harper: Don't use A-Rod at shortstop Links9
The Yankees don't expect Jeter to go on the disabled list. But Joe Girardi wasn't exactly shrugging off the injury either, saying, "We're keeping our fingers crossed" that he won't be sidelined for more than a week. If it were longer, who knows? [link]

... a game Monday lingers. “There’s a lot of different scenarios we’ll talk about as a club and decide what we’re going to do,” Girardi said, and even though there was little substance to his words, it felt frighteningly candid – and, considering the other options, a rather sensible idea. Because under Torre’s watch, no matter how damaging to the Yankees in the short or long term, he wouldn’t dare place someone of consequence at Jeter’s position for fear of upsetting the captain’s chi. Now starting at shortstop … Alex Rodriguez?
Published 4/8/2008 by Ed Valentine at Bugs & Cranks
... Jeter is out for an extended period of time with the quad injury he suffered last night, is it possible that Alex Rodriguez would be moved to shortstop until Jeter returns? Jeter a-hurtin', but Yanks a-winnin'

... , but again that will depend on how long the Captain is out. John Harper is quick to tell Girardi not to mess with A-Rod at all . The conclusion? Since there's no real prognosis on Jeter's injury, it's hard to venture any guess right now. Betemit will probably play the next two or three games, then at that point if Jeter's injury proves worse than initially expecteed, a more permanent plan will have to be implemented. We'd be very hesitant to move A-Rod back there on a whim (despite the fact that he's probably still the best-fielding shortstop on the team). There is different ...

... value. Not bad for those who snagged him in the second round. But Soriano is not the only top-tier talent who could benefit from some added eligibility. The best player in all of baseball, Alex Rodriguez, could possibly see time at shortstop should Derek Jeter require a disabled list stint for his strained quad. The Yankees lack a true backup shortstop, and have Morgan Ensberg backing up A-Rod. Could a return to his old position be in the works? Joe Girardi doesn’t dismiss the idea: “It’s something we’ll talk ...
