World Series Preview: Outfield/DH Comparison
The Yankee Universe — ... (LH): This is a quick one. Matsui batted .274/.367/.509 this season. He has 28 home runs—a Yankees DH record—and 90 RBI to his name. He has had a tough postseason, thus far, but his postseason numbers have always been very good, therefore, I’m hesitant to say that the problems will carry over into the World Series (he will face two good lefties in Hamels and Lee, however). On the season, Matsui’s .378 wOBA and 2.4 WAR were 3rd best amongst designated hitters. Only Adam Lind and Jason Kubel were better (yet Kubel can’t hit lefties while Matsui can). ...

The Hardest Off-Season Decision Looms
This Purist Bleeds Pinstripes — ... BRING HIM BACK: The reigning World Series MVP, Matsui has long been under-appreciated for his consistent offensive stats. We all know he can go deep, but we forget how often he does it. Even with his bum knees and the week he took off while the Yankees were in NL parks, he still cranked 28 home runs and OPS’d .876. He’s a fan favorite that has been nothing but class since his tenure here, and perhaps most importantly, check out what ‘Sui’s done in the postseason. ...

Sentimentality vs. Practicality
It's About The Money - A New York Yankees Blog — ... in 2010 Do they? Letting a quiet, respectful professional like Matsui go, particularly following his WS MVP (I still think Mo or Jeter has a claim to that award) has to be a very difficult decision. Matsui, long a fan favorite and a tremendous link to Japan (it's about the money, even in yen) has been with the Yankees for seven seasons, averaging 25 HR, 106 RBI, 95 runs and a lofty .370 OBP (162 game averages).  His post-season averages are even better. Consummate professional. (click ...

Hideki Matsui Featured Yankee Card of the Week
lennysyankees.com 17 days ago — I think some honor is due for the World Series MVP, Hideki Matsui. What a series he had. All season I talked about how Matsui would not be ...

He was an excellent addition to the Yankees for the past six seasons, and I’m glad he’s finally got a ring to show for it. With, or without him next year, I wish Matsui all the best.
