Bill Simmons Addresses "Unkept Promises" From Management [Bill Simmons]
Published 5/14/2008 by Leitch at Deadspin
... We're not the only ones who noticed that Bill Simmons hasn't written a column in two weeks — until today, anyway — and currently isn't featured on the home page of ESPN.com. We figured it was nothing; the man has taken extended breaks before. But, just to be thorough, we emailed him and asked if anything was up. His response, on the record, surprised us. ...

Doc May Make House Call

... the Sam and Eddie question, said Rivers, who actually hadn t been asked the Sam and Eddie question. Obviously, if Sam is playing well, then there is no Eddie question. If Sam plays poorly, then there is an Eddie question. I m smart enough to get that point. Other than that, we re happy with what we re doing. Rivers comments did beg this question: Exactly what does the coach plan to do with both players? We ll see when the game starts, he said. In other Doc related links, you can find Bill Simmons stuck in the "anger" phase in his latest article. busy ...

Bill Simmons and the Boston Celtics
Published 5/15/2008 by Jim at Green Bandwagon: Front Page Posts
... I do my recap without first mentioning Bill Simmons' recent article on Doc Rivers and the Boston Celtics. It's just epic. You really have to put some time in to carry a fake conversation that far. Particularly one with that many people involved. I've been a Simmons fan now for roughly 7 years. And while I don't agree with everything he writes and couldn't possibly imagine following him if I were not from Massachusetts, I still appreciate what he brings to the table. Here's what I liked the most. ...
Are the Celtics front-runners?
Published 5/15/2008 by Jim at Green Bandwagon: Front Page Posts
... This is something I’ve thought about for a while now. Of course Bill Simmons’ recent article on the state of the Celtics, which I referenced in my last post, only hammered home that point with the following snippet: ...

A Tale of Two Coaching Matchups
Published 5/16/2008 by TCO (noreply@blogger.com) at My Inner Fan
... Which much of the media may have ignored just how significant this is, this match up between Doc Rivers and Mike Brown will go down, for me, as the match up of two of the worst coaches in NBA playoff history. Bill Simmons (good luck on your situation with ESPN) has done a great job of sharing the skills of Doc Brown. Although, I have to admit, I was stumped to see Doc Brown following the conventional wisdom and leaving Rajon Rondo out there after he started playing well. However, this one game does not mask multiple silly substitution patterns utilized by Doc. Mr. PER, ...
Game 7: Win Or Stop Talking About How Important Winning Is
Published 5/18/2008 by Cousins of Ron Mexico at The Big Lead
... Bill Simmons did a pretty good job explaining the Celtics’ mindset earlier this week. Basically, they’re a bunch of guys who have never won anything (Except for James Posey of course.) who keep doing interviews where they talk about how important winning is. Why, just this morning I awoke to the site of Kevin Garnett and Bill Russell talking to each other: ...
Behind the box score, where LBJ and The Truth brought the show
Published 5/19/2008 at Ball Don't Lie
... Why is that BS, BS?
Because it's a team game. Because - let's say in the case of Paul Pierce -
certain players haven't actually been in situations where they've lost to teams
that they shouldn't have. Certain players might make the playoffs, and lose to
better teams every year, mainly because there are five guys on the floor and up
to 12 can play in a game, and the other team might have better players to work
with. This isn't baseball. This isn't football. This is pro basketball, where
the best team usually wins. ...
The Coaching Question
Published 5/27/2008 by Jack (noreply@blogger.com) at The Shamrock Headband
... I could take this time to catalogue the various deficiencies of Glenn's strategies, or lack thereof, as Simmons did in his cathartic guilty pleasure from a couple weeks' back. I could bang my head against my computer in frustration that we still--STILL--have absolutely nothing resembling a consistent rotation, even having just completed the 100th game of our season. These are all valid criticisms and weighty evidence of an NBA coach in far, far over his head. ...
