Trevor Hoffman and the Milwaukee Brewers Bullpen
Advanced Fantasy Baseball —
Thanks to a strain in his rib cage it appears that the Brewers slightly used closer, Trevor Hoffman, will not be available to start the season. This of course kicks speculation about the next in line into overdrive. A serious oblique injury (and it appears that Hoffman's is serious) can take four to six weeks or more to heal properly. The wise money should be on the 41-year old coming in on the long side of that healing time. From MLB.com: "It's looking dim," manager Ken Macha said. Macha made that pronouncement after head athletic trainer Roger Caplinger told him that Hoffman won't be back on a mound for another ...

Some things to read while thinking about what could have been. So, the bullpen situation is increasingly chaotic, with Trevor Hoffman now possibly opening the season on the DL. (Also noted in FanShot) The situation is exacerbated by the fact that David Riske and Carlos Villanueva aren't pitching well and Seth McClung, who isn't pitching exceptionally well either, may be needed to fill a spot in the starting rotation. Riske, for one, is taking his spring results pretty seriously, saying he's in shock after allowing an earned run in five straight ...

Milwaukee Brewers Blog - Bernie's Crew —
Things didn't look so pretty for me after Day 1 of the NCAA tournament, but three days later I have 15/16 teams left going into the second weekend of play. Unfortunately the Badgers and Golden Eagles couldn't pull it together and give us Wisconsinites a reason to slack off at work for a couple more days. The Brewers will just have to take their place. Big League News: The Brewers were roughed up early on in yesterday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Mark DiFelice was given the chance to prove himself as a future spot starter, but fell apart in the 45 MPH winds that gusted over the Arizona desert. The Giants knocked the ...

The Indians settled their rotation by announcing Scott Lewis and Anthony Reyes will be their 4th and 5th starters behind Cliff Lee, Fausto Carmona, and Carl Pavano. The Rays optioned David Price to Triple-A Durham yesterday. The reasons for the move are so Price can get better command of his fastball and work on his pitch efficiency. I think he'll be back in Tampa by mid-May. Cubs righty Jeff Samardzija looks like he'll end up in Triple-A as well. Huston Street could be pulling ahead in the race to determine the Rockies closer. In his last two outings, Street pitched 5 scoreless innings. He hasn't given up a walk since March 6. Manny Corpas, on the ...
