Excellent: Snell's deal, which takes effect this year, is guaranteed at a total of $8 million for three years. He also receives a $600,000 signing bonus. The 2011 and 2012 seasons are at the Pirates' option. Those years are worth at least a total ...Snell gets his extension

The Pirates and Ian Snell came to agreement on a five-year deal on Sunday, worth as much as $24.6M over five years. As plainly stated by GM Neal Huntington, the Pirates get cost certainty while Snell gets financial stability, even if he never throws another pitch. Snell, dominant in the minor leagues (58-19 W-L, 2.85 ERA, 1.15 WHIP), including a no-hitter at AAA, blossomed last year as a ...Snell Starting the Opener; Ode to the Bucs

Ian Snell, he of the no brain to mouth filter club, has been named the Bucs' starter for Opening Day 2008. He was 9-12 last season with 3.76 ERA and 177 Ks in 208 innings. That's 7.66 K's per 9/innings, good for 10th in the NL. Snell is a hard throwing, hard partying guy, and he's a little crazy, which endears him to me. I feel bad that he plays for the Pirates. ...Bucs Lock Up Snell

It's pretty rare that the Pittsburgh Pirates have a young player worth getting excited over. It's even rarer that they get one that doesn't mind being a Pirate. Accordingly, it's good news for Pirate fans today that the team has struck a long-term deal with Ian Snell to buy out his arbitration years and possibly keep him around for a year or two after that. Ian Snell and the Pittsburgh Pirates have come to an agreement to keep the pitcher wearing black and gold long-term. I love this deal.
