Someone Forgot the Meaning of 'NFP'
The Sporting Blog —
... Out of a morbid curiosity, I'm now left to wonder if this thing also went in the print edition this way. I've worked at a small paper before, and I know that often the text for online is ripped straight from an on-screen print edition and posted. Perhaps more amazing is the fact that Big League Stew first noted this error at 11:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. As of this writing early on Thursday, the note is still included in the online edition. That fact makes me believe this error probably made it into print, too. ...
The Yardley News Editor Got Some ‘Splainin To Do
The Fightins —
... for spelling it that way.
That guy is Matthew Fleishman, editor of the Yardley News. In his most recent “hot stove” article, Matthew put a little NFP not into his notes on Domonic. In “the biz”, NFP is short for NOT FOR PUBLICATION, meaning it’s a note to the editor explaining why something that may look strange is actually correct. Unfortunately for Matt, his little NFP was published.

... Oh, and every high school newspaper reporter makes this mistake once, but apparently some don't learn from it: Calling a player an idiot in "not for print" notes in your story is never a good idea. ...
Phils-ville is NOT affiliated with the Bucks paper that called Domonic Brown "an idiot"

... or was he/she just desperately trying to get some blog traction? If it was the latter, it worked. Original catch of this gaffe from the always on-top-of-its-game Big League Stew. Remember Bucks Local News, we're always watching. And Domonic Brown will spell his name any damn way he pleases.

... like that seem to have an endless string of second chances.
It might mean, though, that his days of being handed playing time are over.
From now on, he's going to have to earn it by being the better quarterback, and
that should have been the case a long, long time ago.

... Philadelphia prospect Domonic Brown spells his first name a bit strangely, but that did not stop a journalist in Pennsylvania from calling him an idiot in the newspaper for how he spells his name. The comment was not meant for publication. An editing error, however, caused the comment to be printed anyway. The journalist quickly retracted the comment and said that the only idiot was himself. Indeed. ...

... in 2006 with Brandon Webb and Johan Santana. Thus my post idea was pretty much DOA. I was hoping that Lincecum and Greinke had pulled off something unusual but Lincecum didn’t even meet the criteria and 2 of the 3 previous years it did happen. I don’t know why I thought it would be an unusual feat. I guess it just highlights how little faith I have in in the Baseball Writers Association of America when it comes to getting things right. Speaking of getting things right, thanks to this , I now know which spelling of Domonic Brown’s name is correct. With that, I shall take ...

... punted. But Belichick has absolutely earned the right to occasionally make a bad call without being compared to Marty Morninwheg. Both are percentage calls, absolutely. But one was based on reason by a coach with a proven track record who turned out to be wrong, one was based on foolishness. And we'll close this week's edition off with some good old inside-baseball humor from the newsroom, courtesy of The Bucks Local News in Pennsylvania. A story about Phillies prospect Domonic Brown contained this little note : (*NFP: DOMONIC IS SPELLED RIGHT, HE'S JUST AN IDIOT*). Of course, ...
