The Cubs promoted former Notre Dame star Jeff Samardzija to Triple-A Iowa, where he'll replace Sean Marshall in the rotation beginning Tuesday. Samardzija, who signed a $10 million deal in 2007, was 3-5 with a 4.86 ERA at Double-A Tennessee.
