Katz: Major NCAA violations at IU under Sampson
Published 2/13/2008 by Thermocaster at The Meaningful Collateral
... I’m always hesitant to take anything Andy Katz says at face value, particularly when there’s not a source attached to it (Remember the fiasco prior to IU hiring Sampson? Yeah, exactly). However, if Andy Katz is correct this time, things are about to get pretty goddamn ugly in Hoosierville. ...

Rough loss for Michigan State, the BigTen is wide open now and Purdue continues to impress. Reading those reports of the SYF AAU team making splashes at national tournaments makes a lot more sense lately. Kalin Lucas is going to be a star in the Big Ten though if he isn’t already. Bottom line it seems like MSU will go wherever Drew Neitzel and Raymar Morgan take them. Our friends at Spartans Weblog has a great report on the game.

Kelvin Sampson May Have Just Burned His 9th Life

... So, Sunday during the Ohio State-Indiana basketball game, some Hoosier fans stopped by and took umbrage with the fact that Corey had called Kelvin Sampson “dirty” in his game preview.
Turns out he was right.
Wonder how they’re feeling today as news breaks that Indiana basketball is about to get dialed up for “major violations”.
Quoteth the WWL:
This new information that helped result in a major violations tag could put the season of Indiana (No. 12 ESPN/USA Today, No. 13 AP) under a cloud ...

Even if everything Sampson says is true, he did a remarkably bad job impressing upon his staff the significance of the sanctions. Nevertheless, is it asking too much for the media to report the basic findings, which were established months ago? The Associated Press? ESPN's report is more troubling. Andy Katz reports that the NCAA has characterized the violations as major. Whether that means ...

Kelvin Sampson Doesn’t Give a Shit About the Rules
Published 2/13/2008 by C. Brahkowski at Brahsome - Care To Get Nice?
Kelvin Sampson loves making phone calls to recruits. He loves it. Unfortunately for Coach Sampson, this isn’t ‘Nam, this is recruiting, there are rules. And even though the NCAA’s infraction committee often seems more like a team of monkeys than a formidable opponent to cheating, ::coughReggieBushcough::, every once in a while they try to flex a little muscle. Like when a skier wants to return punts, or when a coach has an itchy trigger finger.
What’s unfortunate in this case, is that IU’s basketball ...

Published 2/13/2008 by Signal to Noise at SPORTSbyBROOKS
ESPN’s Andy Katz is reporting that Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson may have lied about phone calls when the university self-reported violations, meaning further problems for the beleaguered coach. This investigation comes after Sampson had already been punished by the school for more illegal phone calls at IU while he was already on probation for similar offenses at his last coaching gig in Oklahoma.
