The Indians have signed right-hander Fausto Carmona to a multiyear contract extension.
ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reports that Carmona's contract is potentially worth $43 million over seven years, with the first four years guaranteed for $15 million total. With escalators, the contract could exceed $43 million.

As a team, you'd rather see Carmona do it again before you ink him to a big deal, but of course the player's leverage and asking price goes way up at that point. Which is why we seem to be seeing more of these kinds of deals after a guy has his first good year; once a player gets established, he's more apt to wait it out and try his hand at the open market. ...
