The New York Mets (56-47) won their third straight game and 14 of their last 17, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 7-2 at Shea Stadium. The Mets also increased their lead in the National League East to two games as the Atlanta Braves topped the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies and Flordia Marlins are now tied for second place with 54-49 records. [link]
