Auburn loses Etheridge for rest of '09

While it was certainly good news for Zac Etheridge that he had movement in all of his extremities following a collision with a teammate, the prognosis for the rest of his 2009 season is not as good. According to the Birmingham News , the Auburn safety will miss the remainder of the 2009 season with a neck injury. Head coach Gene Chizik said this afternoon that they are "very hopeful for a full recovery". The News reported that a picture on Etheridge's Facebook page showed the DB wearing a neck brace.

... neck injury involved, and stayed motionless for the entire time. His actions may well have prevented a worse injury to Etheridge. Kudos to Scott for his actions. We'll be cheering him and his Rebel teammates on, from here on out!
Mike Slade filled in admirably for Etheridge, Saturday, and will likely hold onto the job for the remainder of the season. Former starter Mike McNeil is not a likely option, said Chizik.
