... ESPN is interested in the EPL rights.Obviously the EPL is huge, but I just don't think an entire channel devoted to Soccer in the U.S. would work. ESPN Classic is just sitting there though and with the various countries ESPN is aired in around the world might make the investment worth it. We shall see. Also, with this news we're also one step closer to ESPN bringing us the "Ocho". Good times. (Some of ) Your Questions Answered (Soccer By Ives) Is ESPN Classic About to Become ESPN3? (Fanhouse)

Over at The AOL Fanhouse, the soccer guys were buzzing about the potential for ESPN to acquire some additional high-profile soccer for 2009. As NASCAR fans continue to growse about the problems with non-televised Cup practice and Nationwide broadcasts, one answer from ESPN's own Soccer columnist was certainly interesting. Here is it below, and here is the full link. About a year and a half ago, ESPN announced that it was shutting down production on original programming for ESPN Classic. Since then, the network has shown everything from ...

... There is talk of making ESPN Classic into just plain ol’ ESPN3, and the local sports talk radio discussed just what you’d like to see on it. One interesting idea (more of a dream, really) would be to have an OnDemand channel for any sporting event that’s been put to film. I got to thinking of just what I’d want to watch on their. Would I want to relive Championship memories for my favorite teams? See the best players of another era in their prime? Catch a historic event, like Jesse Owens at the Olympics? I put the question to you. Comment away for ...

... I've commented about Soccer briefly before on this blog. I think I could totally get in to some of the foreign leagues if I had any idea who to cheer for. So I ask you soccer geeks, who and why? Also, ESPN may get the rights for the English Premier League so that could make it even easier. ...

... For ESPN, this deal makes sense in terms of what it is doing with ESPN Classic. More than a few people have noticed that ESPN Classic is becoming a de facto ESPN3. If you do not believe me, just ask anyone who recently had to watch Euro 2008 games on an HD-less ESPN Classic. It is not to far from being “The Tres.” ...

... , I engaged in a short debate with Mike Georger about the good versus bad of ESPN getting into the business of showing lots of soccer stateside. Such an argument is precipitated on the rumors that ESPN is shuttering its Classic channel and looking to replace it with, possibly, an ESPN3. This new channel would have soccer, and the EPL, as its cornerstone. While I think that such a move would be positive for American soccer viewers, Mike is vociferously against it. This Point/Counterpoint will allow us to make our arguments and allow you to weigh in as well in the comments. ...
