Athleticism is often defined very narrowly. In the context of basketball, athleticism is usually understood to refer primarily to explosiveness laterally (quickness) and vertically (jumping ability). However, this kind of thinking leads to a lot of stereotyping and superficial analysis, usually along racial lines.
