NEWSFLASH: Shelton Purchased; Botts DFAed
Published 4/29/2008 by Joey Matschulat at Baseball Time in Arlington
... In a move that could potentially signal a significant cutback in the future playing time of struggling first baseman Ben Broussard, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Texas Rangers have designated enigmatic first baseman/left fielder Jason Botts for assignment, and have purchased the contract of first baseman Chris Shelton from Triple-A Oklahoma. ...

Shelton Purchased, Botts DFAed

... against right-handers. I don't know if Shelton will play every day at first, but I'm pretty certain that at the very least, but it won't surprise me. Brandon Boggs is expected to be called up to replace Hank Blalock, but to get Shelton on the roster, the Rangers had to take somebody off the 40-man roster. It appears, Botts is the guy. His career with the Rangers, which began in 2000 as a 46th round draft choice, is now more in limbo than ever before. http://rangersblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/04/jason-botts-has-been-dfad.html   ...

Shelton to be purchased, Botts DFA’d…
Published 4/29/2008 by Beverly at Young Guns
... –Yet another example of the Rangers stupidity.  Per Evan Grant, the Rangers whose “season hangs by the cliff” has decided to go with a more established bat and will purchase the contract of Chris Shelton from Oklahoma.  To make room for him on the 40-man roster, Jason Botts has been designated for assignment.  Here is the complete story. ...

Jason Botts has been DFA’d
Published 4/29/2008 at BBTF's Baseball Primer Newsblog
Jason Botts has been DFA’d And Shelton is back! The Rangers this afternoon, perhaps momentarily, will announce that Jason Botts has been designated for assignment and that Chris Shelton’s contract will be purchased. The club is desperate for another productive right-handed bat in the lineup and Botts simply hasn’t taken advantage of whatever limited opportunities he’s been given. He is hitting .158 in 38 at-bats. The move will give the Rangers 10 days to trade, release or outright Botts to Triple-A. If he clears waivers, the Rangers absolutely want to keep him in the system, ...

... The move will give the Rangers 10 days to trade, release or outright Botts to Triple-A. If he clears waivers, the Rangers absolutely want to keep him in the system, but with the season hanging on the edge of a cliff, the Rangers need somebody with a little bit of a track record of big league success against left-handers. Shelton will see time in the first-base rotation, certainly against left-handers, but it won't surprise me if he gets some time against right-handers, too. source Dallas News ...

Roster Notes
Published 4/30/2008 by Rob at 6-4-2 — an Angels/Dodgers double play blog
A bunch of doings around the divisions: I missed this over the weekend, but it's worth mentioning: the Rangers are already thinking about firing Ron Washington. Sure, why not? Hank Blalock went on the DL with a torn left hamstring; the Rangers will call up OF Brandon Boggs to replace the infielder on the 25-man. The Rangers DFA'd Jason Botts. Texas starter Jason Jennings left the game early with an irritated elbow; the Royals eventually won that game 9-5. Troy Tulowitzki left a game early today with a strained left ...

Newberg: Go Botts
Arlington’s primo blogger Jamey Newberg has a thoughtful essay on the shackling of the Rangers’ favorite AAAA slugger. Jason Botts probably won’t be Travis Hafner—but then again Hafner wasn’t supposed to do what he has done, either—but he doesn’t need to be. If he’s Lee Stevens or Jack Cust, that’s fine. Maybe he’s even Lamb, a selective, professional hitter who hasn’t nailed down a defensive ...
Rangers Link Dump: Botts Fallout Edition
An idle question: has there been a player to roll through the Texas Rangers organization in the past decade that has generated more lively discussion or been more utterly polarizing than Jason Botts ? I think not. Dallas Morning News: Botts wants out of Texas Rangers organization “I think I’ve been here for a pretty long time and I deserve a fresh start somewhere ...
Botts Wants Out
The Texas Rangers designated Jason Botts for assignment after his fourth unsuccessful stint in the majors. Botts, who was hitting .158 with 2 HR in 38 at-bats, will likely clear waivers. He has great power, but has never been given the opportunity to play everyday. He reminds me a lot of Ben Broussard, currently the Rangers first baseman, who has great power as well. With the Rangers ...
Rangers give up on Botts, I give up on the Rangers
Sorry Jason Botts, the Rangers are in a win-now mode, no patience for you I've just about had it with the Texas Rangers. In my mind, there's a noose around GM Jon Daniels' neck and it's out of slack. Hell, I'm a forgiving fan. I get mistakes. I've made a couple. Chris Young, Adrian Gonzalez, Alfonso Soriano. OK, bad moves. Let's move on. But on April 15, Jason Botts had four at bats. He ...
Wednesday a.m. things
Another game yesterday ruined by a crappy Jason Jennings outing.  Jennings left with an irritated ulnar nerve, although there's no indication right now as to whether or not he'll miss his next start, much less go on the d.l. Jason Botts wants out of the Rangers organization , and wants a "fresh start" elsewhere.  Can't say that I blame him.  The Rangers have bent over ...
Rangers continue roster shuffle
The Texas Rangers ' roster shuffling Tuesday brought to an end Jason Botts ' fourth stint in the majors with Texas. He said he wants to leave the organization. Botts was designated for assignment and Chris Shelton was promoted to give the Rangers what they hope is a more productive right-handed bat. The club also put Hank Blalock on the disabled list with a partially torn right hamstring. He's ...
DFA’d: Botts, Corey, Aquino
A couple of players around the league today were designated for assignment by their respective ballclubs. As per Ken Daley at MLB.com, the Texas Rangers designated OF/DH prospect Jason Botts for assignment. Botts, listed at 6′5″, 250 pounds, was hitting just .158 with the Rangers in 15 games. He also struck out a silly 18 times. In 93 major-league games over the last 4 seasons, ...

Rangers DFA Botts, recall 1B Shelton
With a career .293/.399/.484 minor league line, Jason Botts has proven that he can mash with the best of them at AAA. However, the 27 year-old has found far less success at the major league level, batting just .242/.329/.336 in 244 career at-bats. Convinced that Botts’ minor league success just doesn’t translate to the big leagues, the Texas Rangers designated Botts for assignment ...
