The Bullpen Additions Post

... 43 strikeouts, 8 walks, 1 homerun allowed. Look, I'm not suggesting he's going to post a 1.51 FIP in the majors, that would be insane. I would suggest that he deserves a look. Countless teams have passed him over for whatever reason despite solid production and solid stuff. Maybe the guy is secretly a furry or something, but anything shy of that and it raises questions as to why he has less than 40 career big league innings.

T.R. Sullivan: Rangers claim Jason Grilli

Colorado had designated him for assignment. Jason Grilli wasn't terrible the past couple of years with the Rockies but was so far this year. Will be interesting to see how this plays out with the other pitching machinations.

During the streak, the offense has outscored opponents 46-14, the rotation's ERA is 2.53 and the bullpen has finally constructed a bridge to closer Huston Street.

Tuesday a.m. Rangers stuff
Lone Star Ball —
... Remarkably, the Rangers are still alone in first place today...it seemed like folks were resigned to the Angels beating Colorado and pulling into a tie for first last night, but the Rockies won, 11-1, and thus the Rangers are still a game up on Anaheim.

Vicente Padilla has been scratched from his start on Saturday, due to a sore shoulder. Derek Holland will take his place.
Dustin Nippert could be activated and return to the Rangers after just one more rehab appearance. The question then, of course, is who is removed from the 40 man roster and the 25 man roster to make room for Nippert.
The Rangers bullpen has a new talisman, courtesy of Jason Grilli.

I'm just kidding. He's still fucked. Other average fastballs from the same game:

Philadelphia took 2 of 3 from the Rockies in April, but none of the Phillies' starting pitchers from that series will face Colorado this time around. Naturally, much has changed for these teams since that series. That was back when Ryan Spilborghs was the primary CF and Jason Grilli was the 7th inning man. Perhaps more valid are recent games. ...

Lone Star Ball —
... Eddie Guardado is headed to the disabled list. Willie Eyre is being recalled.
I've thought for a little while now Eddie was going to have a d.l. trip. I don't think the Rangers feel comfortable with him being out on the mound right now, but they also don't want to cut ties with him. This allows them to let him rest his arm for a couple of weeks, stay with the team, and then activated him in September.
