Some sound and lots of fury
Published 2/2/2007 by Ian C. at Sweaty Men Endeavors
... Meanwhile, the audio clip/podcast I've been enjoying is Jason Whitlock's appearance on Detroit's other sports talk station, WDFN, yesterday. Fresh off his dismissal from ESPN, following some negative comments he made about Mike Lupica and Scoop Jackson to The Big Lead, Whitlock aired out some dirty laundry in his paper, the

A Rejoinder to David Zirin

... I first came across Jason Whitlock's prose after a friend mentioned an article penned by Whitlock that took ESPN's Scoop Jackson to task for suggesting to young African-American school kids that they had a better chance of making it as professional basketball players than they did as sports journalists. The friend also happened to send along Whitlock's infamous interview with The Big Lead, where he referred to Jackson as a "clown" and took issue with his "fake ghetto posturing." Perhaps most striking was his employment of the term "bojangling" in describing Jackson's unorthodox writing style. While many were shocked at Whitlock's lack of nuance or subtlty in criticizing his former colleague, there were those among us who agreed in concept with Whitlock's remarks. Though we may not have entirely agreed with his bombastic tone or use of merciless adjectives, the time had come for someone to call out Jackson.

... Picking to mess with The Big Lead, out of the myriad of sports blogs out there, was a REALLY bad move by the Schrutebag. They have serious online street cred, with over 60 sports blogs linked to their site, and interviews with mainstream media & sports members such as ESPN’s Dan LeBatard and the Detroit Tiger’s Curtis Granderson. Their interview with Jason Whitlock (just after he left ESPN) is a must read, (especially when he rips on Scoop Jackson and Mike Lupica) and has been viewed nearly 100,000 times. It’s no wonder how quickly the blog troops went on the offensive.

... Jason Whitlock, the former ESPN.com columnist whose interview with a blog got him banned from the four-letter, has been kicking ass and taking names in the wake of the Don Imus fiasco.  "Big Sexy" (a nickname nobody agreed to give him) usually just speaks his mind for the Kansas City Star and his new gig at AOL Sports, but with some recent TV appearances he's quickly outgrown "Around the Horn."

An Open Letter To Jason Whitlock

... Mr. Whitlock, the media wants you to say those things, especially the right wing media. You are appearing to be on “their” side. You call for new leadership, but I didn’t hear you make any specific recommendations. Of course you will receive an abundance of attention and praise, as Bob Ryan coined you “the world’s last honest man.” You said yourself in an article posted on TheBigLead.com, “white people write me love letters when I blast off into the way the media and a prosecutor tried to crucify the Duke lacrosse players on the word of a couple of black criminal escorts.”

Whitlock’s boy Chadiha backs L.J. — so do I

... , Jason Whitlock s boy , has the perfect analysis when it comes to L.J. and his potential holdout. His rationale is much more logical than his boy Jabba s, whose only goals in life seem to be: A.) Be a drama king. B.) Get King Carl fired. Maybe Whitlock just has crown envy? Anyway, check out Chadiha s slant: 1. Should the Chiefs pay Johnson? Yes. They shouldn t give him the absurd amount that he s coveting reportedly in the neighborhood of $27 million or $28 million in guaranteed money but the Chiefs need to accept that he has quite a bit of leverage here. Johnson is their best player, period. Along with amassing big-time numbers over the past two seasons (3,539 yards, 37 touchdowns), not to mention a record 416 carries in 2006, he s the best means of keeping pressure off an offense that could be led by second-year quarterback Brodie Croyle and a young defense that remains a work in progress. Of course, Johnson s critics point to his boorish ...

... ) * * * * * * * * * * * * * Jason Whitlock via TheBigLead This interview, once it moved down the line from web reader to web reader, proved that even the lartgest powers-that-be do, in fact, read your blogs. The boys at TBL squeezed this interview out of the self-proclaimed Big Sexy and the rest is history. Already having removed himself from ESPN s Page2 for what he viewed as greener pastures with AOL Sports, ESPN removed Whitlock from their network TV shows (The Sports Reporters and guest-spots on PTI although the most recent rumor was that he guest hosted Rome Is Burning a week or two ago). His riff with Scoop Jackson and hip hop music was nothing new, but in this interview he was very candid with both, as well as adding that his fellow coworker was bojangling a word that makes people of all sorts, especially big networks, uncomfortable. He s since taken to a higher platform, appearing on CNN and Oprah, accusing people across the country ...

... There's two solid views from both sides, but let's be real; why be so uptight about B-Lloyd? This doesn't appear to have the makings of Whitlock-Jackson, but it gives the appearance that it can and will get messy. Besides, with Lloyd, the proof is in the play.
