tykeenan +4I will engage in some form of active protest if this trade happens.-
Jason Seriously--why mortgage the future when the present team is so far from contending?-
tykeenan It's mortgaging the future for nothing, too. Cain and Lincecum are not just prospects anymore; they've proven that they're legitimate players who can win you games now. Rios is a very good hitter, obviously, but that offense was deplorable last year and won't be any better with Rios replacing Bonds. At most, I could see this deal adding five wins. Great, so we finish in last with 70 wins instead of 65.
And Rios is 27. The Giants won't be good for at least three years in any situation. At that point, he's 30 and on the slide. Lincecum and Cain are just moving into their primes then.
It doesn't even make sense as a marketing move. No one in the Bay Area will go out of his way to see Alex Rios play. I'd much rather watch Cain or Lincecum once every five days than watch Alex Rios every day.

Crucifictorious Maybe they're going for degree-of-difficulty on the rebuilding effort.
