His comments came after a caller suggested the Jays acquire Dunn, who is hitting .227 with 18 homers and 43 RBIs with the Reds. “Do you know the guy doesn’t really like baseball that much?” Ricciardi said to the caller. “Do you know the guy doesn’t have a passion to play the game that much? This is frustrating, but I understand, because this (via Primer) is what you get when a GM is honest in public, and it's not pretty. ...

... Toronto's flagging offense. Finger, meet nerve. Said Ricciardi: "He’s a lifetime .230, .240 hitter that strikes out a ton and hits home runs." Said the caller: "“Yes, he hits home runs, which none of the Toronto Blue Jays are doing." Here's a dramatic interpretation of what happened next. Here's actual audio of what happened, courtesy of Redleg Nation. And here's a partial transcript from the National Post: “Do you know the guy ...

More from J.P. Ricciardi: he’s not an Adam Dunn fan.
J.P. had an exchange with a radio show caller in which he revealed he wouldn’t want Dunn on the Blue Jays. “Do you know the guy doesn’t really like baseball that much?” he said to the caller. “Do you know the guy doesn’t have a passion to play the game that much? ... So I have to ask once more - why the negativity regarding Adam Dunn? Yes, his defense is sub-par, but he’s certainly not the worst LFer in the game. His numbers don’t improve in clutch situations, but the criticism is very much overstated. And striking out a ton doesn’t make you a bad offensive player. Adam Dunn may not make many “productive outs” but he sure as hell makes up for it by not making many outs to begin with and just being straight up productive. Oh yeah, I forgot. He doesn’t like baseball . That’s why.

As for me, though I know it’s not uncommon for team employees to host a weekly show, I can’t help but think this is a way for Snyder to attempt to control the media. Do the radio hosts get a chance to act as team vice presidents a few days a week, too? Seems like an awful lot of time for a person with a seemingly ...
