The Best Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Preview Ever

The 4th of July means one thing in my apartment - The Hot Dog Eating Contest. Every year my roommate and I sit in front of the television and gawk at the ridiculous scene surrounding the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Championship. Hundreds of thousands of people swarm to Coney Island to watch people eat hot dogs. Heck, it could be millions. I don’t know. I don’t work for ...

Top Ten guys I wouldn’t compete against in a five-dog showdown
I will attempt to set the stage for some odd child’s life-long dream. July 4, Noon Eastern. Coney Island, New York. On the “sports” biggest stage. For those still clueless, I am located in the heart of the Major League Eating’s main event; the 2008 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. Is this my dream? Absolutely not. I weigh 165 pounds in a Kansas St. basketball program and had to run home from ...

Hot Dog Eating Contest - A Sport?
I still can’t get over that the word “competitive” is placed in front of “eating” and is actually a “sport”. ESPN is even showing the highlights right now on SportsCenter. There are even “techniques” involved and apparently some are not legal in every state. Contestants were using the controversial “cannonball technique” this year which is legal in New York where the 2008 Nathan’s Hot Dog ...
Chestnut Eats More Hotdogs Than You
For those who somehow missed it, Joey Chestnut brought his A game and took hot dog eating to new levels, as he and Kobayashi went into overtime to decide the King of Hot Dog Eating at the annual contest in Coney Island. Both ate 59 hotdogs in 10 minutes, before seeing who can eat five the quickest to determine it all. It was shocking…well, cause I didn’t realize that there was a ...

We're #1! We're #1!
Hopefully everybody's off having a great 4th of July.  Nothing says Happy 4th of July like the annual Nathan's hot dog eating contest on Coney Island.  Actual quote: "It's July 4 and we're in the epicenter of patriotism here at Coney Island" (of course also heard: "The passion is raw, but the hot dogs are cooked!"). Anyways, congratulations are in order for the Bay Area's own ...
Just in Case You'd Like Visual Proof That Joey Chestnut Really Loves Hot Dogs
It's the Fourth of July, which for many Americans, is a wonderful excuse to get drunk and stuff your face, all under the guise of celebrating freedom. And if you're a competitive eater, you can actually make a few bucks in the process. It's not exactly glamorous, but, hey, everybody's good at something, and for Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi , it's all about chugging hot dogs ( video ...
Joey Chestnut Defeats Takeru Kobayashi In Overtime At Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest
I know this may sound ridiculous, but watching Joey Chestnut beat Kobayashi in overtime at the Nathan's hot dog eating contest was one of the more exciting things I've seen in a while. Chestnut No Fluke
On a rainy, gloomy 4th of July the doldrums were broken by a ridiculous piece of Americana- the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. Last year Joey Chestnut beat Takeru Kobayashi to win his first Nathan’s Hot Dog contest, and end the Asian superstar’s 6 year dominance. The only problem? Kobayashi was injured. A jaw injury didn’t stop Kobayashi from [...]
Will UFC 86 be a letdown after Koby-Chestnut II?
What a weekend! My two favorite sports are showcased. Frankly, after the drama that unfolded today on Coney Island, I don't see how Griffin-Jackson can match the intensity of the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. The great Kobayashi, on the comeback trail from a debilitating jaw injury in 2007, was caught in the final seconds by American Joey Chestnut. Kobayashi made the mistake ...

Study: Competitive Eaters' Stomachs Like a 'Giant Balloon That Looks Like It Has No Limit'
Tomorrow is the Fourth of July, which means one of America's great annual sporting events -- the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest -- will take place on Coney Island. The typical reaction from people who watch competitive eating is that it seems impossible that the human digestive system can handle the stress of getting 60-plus hot dogs shoved into it in a 12-minute span. So how do they ...
'Badlands' Booker is 'hungry and focused' on hot dogs
Long Island's own Eric (Badlands) Booker recently won the New Jersey hot dog eating contest to warm up for the big one in Coney Island Friday. The news regarding the latter is that the time limit has been trimmed from 12 minutes to the old-school 10 this year, which should make Joey Chestnut's quest to repeat as champ slightly less disgusting.
