One source told Newsday the Yankees plan to make a "good, strong offer" for Johan Santana and that they believe they have more to offer the Twins in a trade than anybody else does. Santana still has full no-trade protection at the moment, though that wasn't extended into 2008 because he failed to finish in the top three in Cy Young balloting, and it sounds as if he'll demand an extension as ... Twins Make Johan a Weak Offer
Published 11/18/2007 by Sooze at Babes Love Baseball
... Now, in the final year of his contract, the club has reportedly offered to double Johan's salary with a five-year deal worth $93 million. Is that enough for the best pitcher in baseball? Not on the open market, it's not. In the midst of a free agent mess in Minnesota, how badly Johan wants to stick around the Twins Cities area will be apparent if he accepts this proposition. Does Johan Santana's No-Trade Clause Still Apply in 2008?
Published 11/24/2007 by Pat Lackey at FanHouse
Filed under: Minnesota, Twins, AL Central, MLB TransactionsWith talks between Johan Santana and the Twins going poorly it looks more and more likely every day like the Twins are going to be shopping their uber-ace this winter. That means that Santana's no-trade clause becomes a big part of the trade. If he can dictate where he goes, he can basically force a trade to the team that can give him the biggest extension (which would, of course, be the Yankees, who are said to be interested). That, apparently, is bringing up a bit of a sticking point. Santana's no-trade clause was a condition in his contract that had ...

Santana to Sox Trade in the Works
Published 11/29/2007 by Randy Booth <info@overthemonster.com> at Over the Monster: Front Page Posts
ESPN's Buster Olney is reporting, via Rotoworld, that the Sox and Twins are discussing a trade that would send Johan Santana to the Sox for Coco Crisp, Jed Lowrie, Jon Lester and a fourth player. The fourth player could be Justin Masterson or Michael Bowden. I'm hoping it's the former. I really like Bowden and I think he could be as good a pitcher as Clay Buchholz. If the Sox trade Lester, Crisp, Lowrie and Masterson for Santana, I'll be ecstatic. It would certainly favor the Red Sox because A) Crisp is expendable, B) Lowrie doesn't have a ...

As The Santana Turns - While You Were Sleeping
Published 12/4/2007 by Ian at SOX & Dawgs
Wow is all I can say right now. A lot happened while we were sleeping last night with the talks involving Johan Santana and the Red Sox. So let’s take a look what transpired while you were drooling on your pillow last night. Amalie Benjamin from the Boston Globe reported at 2:11 AM that the Twins requested medical records on Jon Lester. The Red Sox have traded medical information with the Minnesota Twins on Jon Lester, which means that talks between the two teams have progressed, with the Twins taking a serious look at the Sox offer. While it looked like things between the Yankees and Twins might be breaking ...

Red Sox News & Notes - 12/15
Published 12/15/2007 by Ian at SOX & Dawgs
Well with the Mitchell Report coming out on Thursday, you would have expected the players from the Red Sox to be quiet about the situation given that no current player on the roster was involved. Yes, Brendan Donnelly and Eric Gagné were on the report but they weren’t accused of doing performance-enhancing drugs while members of the Red Sox. One person from the Red Sox who was on the rumored list that was published on various media outlets and blogs included this one, had Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek’s name on it. Tek wasn’t on the subsequent report but was upset that he was even on the rumored list. “I’d like ...

And they're right back in it

And they're right back in it 2008-01-15 at 10:25 am According to Brian Cashman , GM of the NY Yankees, the Bombers are still in the running for Johan Santana . Yankee-land is a mess of miscommunication right now, so anything coming out of those mouths must be taken with a large grain of salt. With the Yankees in it or not, I still think Omar Minaya needs to be proactive about the possibility of Santana coming to Shea and get moving with this entire process en route to a trade. -AV ...

... It's not official without the two sides agreeing to a long-term contract extension, but multiple sources are reporting that the Twins have agreed to trade Johan Santana to the Mets in exchange for Carlos Gomez, Deolis Guerra, Philip Humber, and Kevin Mulvey. I'll have a full breakdown of the deal in the morning, but my initial reaction is that this is a disappointing haul given the other packages that were rumored to be on the table at various points during the past couple months. ...

Santana trade remarks

... It’s a whole lot better than losing Santana for draft picks next winter, but we’d have taken a Phil Hughes or Jacoby Ellsbury package over this. Rotoworld.com ...
