Harry, I already started working on Santana's data myself, and was wondering if you'd think of extending the research back into Santana's two starts before his start at Yankee Stadium.

Before those two starts, Johan had had a fairly stable K rate, but in those two (as well as his Yankee Stadium start) he Ked no more than 3 batters a game, which is a big change for him.  The shift in the horizontal movement of his pitches does not appear in those other two starts like it did in his last start, making it seem as if another factor is at play here.

Bias in PITCHf/x?
THE BOOK--Playing The Percentages In Baseball — Self-named replacement-level PITCHf/x-ers Harry Pavlidis (*) points out: Ken Takahashi and Brian Stokes both pitched in relief of Santana on Sunday, and we happen to have another game (May 11) from Citi Field where all three pitched. Talk about the fantastic luck to find the same three pitchers who pitched in two different games, with the game we are most interested in be one of those games. (*) Harry three months ago called himself a replacement-level PITCHf/x-er.  I have no idea ...

Hierarchical Pitch Classification
Baseball Analysts — ... classification in the past, but recently few algorithms have broken into the saber-blogosphere. So I'd like to take the opportunity to propose a classification framework for identifying pitch types that is probably novel to most of the pitch F/X community.
