John Daly Shoots 89, David Duval Continues to Roll
This picture was taken during the practice round at Royal Birkdale. It was a picture of two former British Open champions at the butt-end of their career, just hoping to have a little lightening strike at times and maybe make a check. My, what a difference two days make. David Duval shot 73-69 to land in a tie for fourth, looking sharp in all aspects of his game for the first time in years.  ... [link]

Five Reasons To Watch The British Open

At least two of the five of us on this site are golf obsessives, so it's a big week for us as it's time for the 2008 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in England. Yet, with Tiger at home recovering, many are wondering whether there'll be anything interesting to watch this weekend, especially with a 7am EDT start all weekend. Fear not, brave reader! We have come up with five reaso ns ...

Understanding the British Open Through Caddyshack

Without Tiger, the British Open field will be mostly unfamiliar to casual golf fans. However, everyone is familiar with Caddyshack. For your viewing pleasure, I have related many of the major players at Bushwood to a Royal Birkdale "contender". This ...

Greg Norman on top of British Open; time for Chris Evert to worry?

Greg Norman is leading the British Open . Yes, Greg Norman. The 53-year-old has shot two consecutive 70s in brutal conditions at Royal Birkdale to take over the top spot in the race for the Claret Jug. “I don’t play much, I don’t ...

British Open Live Blog

As the wind continues to sweep around the links of Royal Birkdale, the scores balloon and the leaders are bringing more and more names into the equation. Chris Wood ? Simon Wakefield ? Ross Fisher ? Golf Fashion at the Blustery British Open

As we swelter here in New England, wearing as little as possible on the links, the gentlemen over at Royal Birkdale are treating us to a fall fashion show, thanks to the wind, rain and chilly temperatures. Like the winter runway shows that take place in early spring, or the back to school styles beginning to flood our malls, the wintery wardrobes on display over in Lancashire look ... quite ...

David Duval Comes Out of Nowhere to Fire a 73 at British Open

I have to say, when I saw this photo , it took me a few seconds to recognize David Duval . He's, shall we say, put on a few and looks more like the guy who fired a 59 in 1997 than the svelte Tiger-chaser in the early 2000s. No matter, Duval, who has spent the better part of six years focusing on things outside of golf, is currently in the clubhouse after firing an opening round 73. That's ...

Harrington Wins British, Norman Continues Honeymoon
Padraig Harrington YEARS FROM NOW, someone might ask Greg Norman what he did on his second honeymoon. “Let’s see, we traveled, did some sightseeing, shopped a little, I almost won the British Open, stuff like that.” So Norman didn’t win The Open Championship today at Royal Birkdale. I’m not surprised. The Shark winning would have been like a Disney movie ending. And major championship golf ...
Greg Norman Displays Greatness at British Open
I HAD FORGOTTEN. Or, perhaps more accurate, I might not have truly appreciated Greg Norman. This British Open at Royal Birkdale has re-opened my eyes to the enormous talent of the Great White Shark. To be the 54-hole-leader at The Open Championship at age 53 is nothing short of phenomenal. His third-round 72 in high winds was masterful. Norman’s performance in the Open, after virtually no ...
They're Saying It's Windy at Royal Birkdale
Most of the time viewers watch golfers on the PGA Tour and are more jealous than the buddy of a powerball winner. Today isn't one of those times. The leaders at the Open Championship are battling their way around the links of Royal Birkdale in winds that are gusting to 40 miles-per-hour, hitting balls in places you'd never expect pros to be. Nobody has broke par today and an Englishman ...

David Duval in Contention at British Open
(Honeyfield/Flickr) I WAS JUST TRYING TO GET USED to Greg Norman being in contention at the British Open, someone who now plays more tennis than golf, when another ghost from golf’s not-too-distant past appeared on the British Open leaderboard. Could This Be, Gulp, the Resurgence of David Duval For Good?
Now I know what you're thinking. No way should you assume a guy is "back" when he's played golf well for two days. This guy hasn't been good since 2001 and has fallen so far off the map, new golf fans have no clue who he even is. Also, I know the argument can be made that at times over the past five years, Duval has found brilliance, even if for a moment. In 2003 he only made four of 20 cuts ...
David Duval Returns To British Open Leaderboard For First Time Since 2001 Championship
Before there was Tiger Woods, David Duval was the envy of the golfing world. He was the world's No. 1 ranked player, he had the big Nike contract and the Tour Championship. British Open Recap, Who Will Be Around, Who's Out
In case you haven't heard, the weather forecast for tomorrow at Royal Birkdale calls for 40 miles-per-hour winds. What that means is all the guys that just make the cut might have a chance, if they shoot a low number tomorrow morning before the winds get bad, to get back in the hunt. The obvious concern is you have to make the cut to get in, and with the cut line hovering around 8-over, ...
David Duval, We've Missed Ya
You really can't say enough about the impressive play of David Duval, who just chipped in on the 10th hole to move two shots back of Greg Norman. Playing even worse with no Tiger in the British Open just typical Phil Mickelson

The conditions are less than ideal at Royal Birkdale this morning. OK, wayyy less than ideal. It's cold, it's wet and it's ugly. And John Daly is on the course, so there's that. The British Open is the best (or at least my favorite) of the golf majors and in terms of overall sports events, it's top 3.
