OLD FRIENDS: Kason Gabbard had to leave the game because of bruising in his legs suffered when he was charged by Richie Sexson after throwing a pitch close to Sexson's head in the Rangers' game at Seattle last night (Dallas Morning News) . . . Say what you will about Johnny Damon, but you can do nothing but admire his frankness. Prior to yesterday's game he called himself out for not hitting. (mlb.com) And then he stepped up and led the Yankees to victory yesterday. (New York Post)

... is a little misleading. Don't get us wrong here; any power the Yanks get without A-Rod in the lineup is a huge bonus. It's just that we're not convinced the team can get homers from Jason Giambi and Johnny Damon every day; so without those, how exactly is this team gonna score? That's not to take anything away from Damon, who's quietly having a solid season (flirting with a .900 OPS) and who deservedly gets praise from Mark Hale . So the Yanks push onward, having saved a homestand that started 0-3 by winning four out of their last six. Ed Price ...
