SI reports no deals for Wash, Ibanez
U.S.S. MarinerHeyman reports the M’s failed to work out a deal and both players will be returning to the team. If true — The M’s could have just rid themselves of Washburn’s horrible contract for next year. This is absurdly horrible mistake of the team that should disqualify our interim GM and anyone associated with the decision from even being considered for a leadership position in the future.

Junkballing: Booing, Injuries, Waivers and Minors
The Detroit Tiger Weblog — ... . Shocking. The bigger news is that the Tigers put in a claim on Raul Ibanez. Corner outfield/DH doesn’t appear to be a need for the Tigers so I can’t figure out the intent unless they hoped to get him for free, and then take the draft picks when he walks. Luckily they didn’t work out a trade that would have had the Tigers sending the Mariners anything of value. ...

Ibanez, No Ibanez, Ibanez...Washburn?
Twinkie Town — ... What's interesting about yesterday was that the Twins placed, and WON, their waiver wire claim on Jarrod Washburn.  As we all know, teams often make this kind of a snide move in order to screw things up for another team, in this case speculation indicates it was done to block a Washburn-to-Chicago situation.  That's not a bad thing, it's always nice to see the Twins doing something proactive.  But THEN came the report that Minnesota was actually considering bringing Washburn and his hot streak to the Dome.  Says Joe C.: ...

Say What? Tigers Claimed Ibanez?
