First, the Marlins tried to get him in a trade from the Chicago Cubs, but the deal was pulled because of a guy who had nothing to do with the club. Now, after being released by the Tigers, the Marlins had another shot at him and didn't fail this time, signing Jacque Jones to a free agent deal. The Marlins' fascination with Jones is interesting, since not only did they want him this year when they were good, but they wanted him last year ...

Outfielder Jacque Jones has reached agreement on a deal with the Florida Marlins.
Jones, who hasn't faced live pitching since May 4, expects to spend two or three days with Florida's extended spring program in Jupiter before joining the major league club later this week, said his agent, Damon Lapa.
After Jones hit .165 in 24 games with Detroit to begin the season, the Tigers designated him for assignment on May 5. Detroit released Jones on May 13, allowing him to negotiate with ...
