Kevin Jones says he wouldn't mind playing next season for the Eagles, the team he was a fan of during his youth in Chester. The 6-1, 230-pound, 4-year NFL running back and former Cardinal O'Hara High star was released by the Detroit Lions on Thursday, opening up plenty of options for next season. In a story out of Philadelphia today, former Detroit Lions running back Kevin Jones said 12 teams inquired about his situation. According to a source close to the situation, that number has now exceeded 20 teams. Most of the clubs are simply doing their due diligence and "kicking the tires'' to see where Jones stands in his rehab from ACL surgery on his right knee. However, a handful of teams are believed to be serious in signing him. Nothing is expected to happen quickly though because Jones will have to make some visits and have each team's own medical staff check him out. ...

I get that his injury was a concern, but I still don't get the timing aspect of this situation.  If Jones would have been released at the start of free agency, it would have been much more likely that a free agent running back signed with Detroit.  At the same time, if the Lions wait for another month or so - at least until the draft - to see where Jones is at in his rehab, then things may have changed.
