José Calderon : Spain would have won under FIBA rules
José Calderon : Spain would have won under FIBA rules
"This is not the time to speak of officiating, but I think with the FIBA rules we would have won. That is why we are a little annoyed, because we were right there at the finish line and we have just missed out." On Calderon's personal blog, he was a little coy about the topic, going only so far as to say, "Now is not the time to discuss the referees, injuries, absences..." However, on El Mundo..

I don't think the rules or officiating could have changed the fact that Kobe took over in the fourth quarter.  Jose needs to take it like a man and admit defeat at the hands of a superior team.

Between these comments, the Spanish team's photo fiasco, and Calderon's obnoxious three-finger symbol after every made triple, it's becoming very hard to like him. And I desperately want to, as he's arguably the East's finest point guard.

I hear you, but I still have a crazy man-crush on him as a player.

as man crushes go, I would have to say Ricky Ravio is mine. 17 years old on the biggest stage against NBA all stars and playing like a poise veteran, c'mon whats not to crush on.

          True that. Ricky is super-impressive.

Did you get an eye-full of Aussie Patrick Mills though? He certainly showed CP3 a couple of tough possessions out there and looked plenty poised for a 19 year old.

Basically the respect level for the Spanish team has completely disappeared for me.  The complaining during the game, the eye photo, and now Calderon...

We're just better!  Always will be!

What rule changes? If you ask me they got away with murder out there on the court. Attempting to punk out the American team thru intimidation and cheap fouls! This is way we used to play and still shows they got a long way to go. Furthermore,Spanish players showed no class, nor any respect for game(throwing towels on the floor) and this this rule change crap. Most of the rules changes wont happen for the next couple years. Get over it! U.S.A BASKETBALL IS BACK !Wait until da next squad arrives in London !

Im curious to see what our squad is going to look like going forward.  Obviously, Kidd will be gone.  And I doubt that Kobe will be there either.

Mookie, this makes room for our B-roy. Heck ya.  I also see Rose coming in to back up the other PGs.

Yeah definitely! I'm keen to see Brandon out there on Team USA -- as much as I don't want to put any more strain on the knees of any Trail Blazers!

Truehoop had a good breakdown of who Henry thinks will be on those 2010 and 2012 teams. He notes that Melo might be gone due to having devoted so much time to the team already and makes the very valid point that the Summer of 2010 is a key time for those LBJ/Wade/Bosh guys as they'll be out of contract and probably won't want to play -- opening up even more room for Roy!

Jose Calderon Thinks Spain Would Have Won Under FIBA Rules
