Predators comeback falls short as Nashville loses 5-4 in Atlanta
On the Forecheck —
... Thanks to two goals by Josh Gratton (yes, that Josh Gratton who had a short stint with the Preds), the Atlanta Thrashers beat Nashville by a score of 5-4 tonight, ending the Predators' unbeaten streak during this pre-season. The announced attendance was a mere 5,017 at Phillips Arena. At one point midway through the third period the Preds trailed 5-2, but the team fought back to make a game of it before the end. The Carolina forward was dazed and confused as he wobbled to the bench with help from Pete Friesen. He was later cleared to go back into the game and apparently argued with the coaching staff about it, (face to face), but Maurice said he stuck to his guns and would not let him back in. ...

... into the net and I think he felt he had a chance on it but the deflection off his back was just bad luck. A good game overall, especially in the first period where the Thrashers were in their defensive zone for most of the period.
Speaking of, the shot count was at only 1 SOG in the first period when I counted 3. Not that that's much better but the Thrashers really didn't seem to show up till after the 29th minute...

Thrashers Faceoff Event Tonight
Sports Page Atlanta —
... Sometimes we also players who won NHL jobs in Training Camp change their number. But Evander Kane already wears a low number (9) and so does Popovic (3). Valabik switched from 48 to 5 in pre-season. That leaves just Josh Gratton as a potential number switcher, but he wore 24 which is a solid hockey number. The Russian-speaking new comers (Antropov, Kubina, Afinogenov) have all worn high numbers during their careers and I expect that to continue despite Don Waddell's preference for number 40. ...
