Boston Red Sox News & Notes - 5/8
Published 5/8/2008 by Ian at SOX & Dawgs
For the second time since we started doing full recaps of Boston Red Sox games here, I could not bring myself to write a recap. The reason? I think y’all know by now.
If you want to pin this loss on Jonathan Papelbon for not having his best stuff, don’t do it. It wasn’t his fault. Julio “E-6″ Lugo booted a double play that opened things up for the Tigers to come back.
For the first time in a while, the Red Sox didn’t get good starting pitching. Clay Buchholz was subpar last night as he gave up 10 hits and 5 runs in just 4 innings of work. He did strike out 6 and only walked 1 batter. Julian Tavarez pitched for the first time in ...

Buckley: Questions About Errors Spark a Lugo Outburst
Someone Needs to Explain to Julio How It Works in Boston: I dont care, but sometimes it would be nice to say something positive, he said. But all the time its negative things, you know? Sometimes, you know, people should say something thats positive. But every time its something negative . . . bring it up, bring it up, bring it up. Why? I understand you (the media) are going to write whatever you want . . . but I come here ...
Here Comes the Lugo Bashing

With the error on a possible double play ball in the 9th last night, Julio Lugo has once again become the target of the Boston media and a good portion of the fan base. Since J.D. is getting it done this year, many in the media need someone to blame when the Sox lose and Lugo has become that guy. Take a look at some of the bad press this morning: Boston Herald- Lugo Lets It Go Boston Globe- Fumble Leads to Sox Loss and Fielding Woes are Mounting for Shortstop Providence Journal- Which Shortstop Signing Was the Biggest Mistake for Boston: Renteria of Lugo? Someone's Getting Testy
Published 5/8/2008 by Texas Gal at Center Field
Julio "E6" Lugo (or should that be "E6E6E6E6E6E6E6E6E6E6"?) has had enough.
He's tired of people talking about his 10 (!) errors so far this year. He doesn't want to talk about leading the league in errors, two more than the next guy on the list (Edwin Encarnacion has 8). Don't ask him any questions about his error in the ninth last night, and certainly don't bring up his 3-error game in Toronto just a short while ago. He just doesn't understand why anyone cares about all that. ...
Taking criticism

Julio Lugo, who has already committed 10 errors this season, got a little shirty:
“I don’t care, but sometimes it would be nice to say something positive,” he said. “But all the time it’s negative things, you know? Sometimes, you know, people should say something that’s positive. But every time it’s something negative . . . bring it up, bring it up, bring it up. Why?
“I understand you (the media) are going to write whatever you want . . . but I come here every day and bust my ass . . . if things don’t work out sometimes, that’s the way it’s going to be. You understand? But sometimes you bring up ...
Lugo's Blowup
Published 5/9/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Craig Calcaterra) at ShysterBall
Steve Buckley reports on Julio Lugo's frustration with all of the questioning about his error in Wednesday night's game. Actually, that didn't bother him so much, it was the questioning about other errors in addition to that one that did: “It was a soft-hit ground ball and I thought I had a chance to go to second,” Lugo said, softly but clearly. “I was a little overaggressive. Instead of getting one out, I was trying to get the lead runner and I bobbled the ball.” In Lugo’s opinion, nothing more need be asked. Yet we asked anyway, with one writer posing a question that was intended to connect what happened last night in Detroit with what happened last month in ...
