Julio Lugo lets it go Links6
D ETROIT - Julio Lugo [ stats ] has been around the big leagues long enough to know how it works: When you make a ninth-inning error that sets up the winning rally for the opposing team, you re going to find a convention-hall sized throng of media types waiting for you at your locker. And so it was last night at Comerica Park. It was Lugo s bottom-of-the-ninth error on an Edgar Renteria ... [link]

Boston Red Sox News & Notes - 5/8
Published 5/8/2008 by Ian at SOX & Dawgs
For the second time since we started doing full recaps of Boston Red Sox games here, I could not bring myself to write a recap. The reason? I think y’all know by now. If you want to pin this loss on Jonathan Papelbon for not having his best stuff, don’t do it. It wasn’t his fault. Julio “E-6″ Lugo booted a double play that opened things up for the Tigers to come back. For the first time in a while, the Red Sox didn’t get good starting pitching. Clay Buchholz was subpar last night as he gave up 10 hits and 5 runs in just 4 innings of work. He did strike out 6 and only walked 1 batter. Julian Tavarez pitched for the first time in ...

... And Then Goes Off ... Buckley: Questions About Errors Spark a Lugo Outburst Someone Needs to Explain to Julio How It Works in Boston: “I don’t care, but sometimes it would be nice to say something positive,” he said. “But all the time it’s negative things, you know? Sometimes, you know, people should say something that’s positive. But every time it’s something negative . . . bring it up, bring it up, bring it up. Why? Here Comes the Lugo Bashing
Published 5/8/2008 by Fenway West (noreply@blogger.com) at Fenway West
With the error on a possible double play ball in the 9th last night, Julio Lugo has once again become the target of the Boston media and a good portion of the fan base. Since J.D. is getting it done this year, many in the media need someone to blame when the Sox lose and Lugo has become that guy. Take a look at some of the bad press this morning: Boston Herald- Lugo Lets It Go Boston Globe- Fumble Leads to Sox Loss and Fielding Woes are Mounting for Shortstop Providence Journal- Which Shortstop Signing Was the Biggest Mistake for Boston: Renteria of Lugo? Someone's Getting Testy
Published 5/8/2008 by Texas Gal at Center Field
Julio "E6" Lugo (or should that be "E6E6E6E6E6E6E6E6E6E6"?) has had enough. He's tired of people talking about his 10 (!) errors so far this year. He doesn't want to talk about leading the league in errors, two more than the next guy on the list (Edwin Encarnacion has 8). Don't ask him any questions about his error in the ninth last night, and certainly don't bring up his 3-error game in Toronto just a short while ago. He just doesn't understand why anyone cares about all that. ...

Taking criticism
Published 5/8/2008 by Bjoern at Mojo Blog
Julio Lugo, who has already committed 10 errors this season, got a little shirty: “I don’t care, but sometimes it would be nice to say something positive,” he said. “But all the time it’s negative things, you know? Sometimes, you know, people should say something that’s positive. But every time it’s something negative . . . bring it up, bring it up, bring it up. Why? “I understand you (the media) are going to write whatever you want . . . but I come here every day and bust my ass . . . if things don’t work out sometimes, that’s the way it’s going to be. You understand? But sometimes you bring up ...

Lugo's Blowup
Published 5/9/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Craig Calcaterra) at ShysterBall
Steve Buckley reports on Julio Lugo's frustration with all of the questioning about his error in Wednesday night's game. Actually, that didn't bother him so much, it was the questioning about other errors in addition to that one that did: “It was a soft-hit ground ball and I thought I had a chance to go to second,” Lugo said, softly but clearly. “I was a little overaggressive. Instead of getting one out, I was trying to get the lead runner and I bobbled the ball.” In Lugo’s opinion, nothing more need be asked. Yet we asked anyway, with one writer posing a question that was intended to connect what happened last night in Detroit with what happened last month in ...

Lugo makes another error

MINNEAPOLIS - Is it getting to the point where you just feel sorry for Julio Lugo? It seems every ball hit to him is an adventure. You can tell he's in that 'hit it anywhere but to me" mode. In the second inning, two outs, Adam Everett at second ...

Boston Red Sox News & Notes - 5/10

Why does it seem like everytime Julio “E-6″ Lugo makes an error, it leads to a run or two. While the offense bailed him out last night and I will admit he made some nice plays later on in the game, his errors are making the Boston Red Sox pitchers throw more pitches.

VIDEO: Julio Lugo moves like a wounded wildebeest

I could have let the bad vibes from last night’s loss infiltrate my brain, leading me to write a column about Jed Lowrie, the Red Sox’ shortstop of the future. But that would have been knee-jerk and dispiriting. Instead, I chose to watch baseball bloopers, which serve to remind me that Lugo isn’t the only fielder who bobs around like a wounded wildebeest.

Lugo Out -- Possible Concussion
Error-prone shortstop Julio Lugo has been scratched from the starting lineup because he may be suffering from a mild concussion. Lugo was struck on the side of the head by the knee of Minnesota second baseman Matt Tolbert on a forceout in the sixth inning of Friday night's game. The throw from Twins third baseman Mike Lamb to second base was high to the first-base side of the bag, ...
Lugo Doesn't Help His Cause
When players get to the bigs they should be taught to never say anything negative about the media because the 4th estate always has the last word. When Julio told the Boston Herald they were focusing too much on the negative it opened the door for media outlets to jump on him, rightly or wrongly that is always going to happen. His error last night did not help much and gave the press another ...
Papelbon blows second save in a row, but another costly Lugo error plays significant role in Red Sox loss
That Jonathan Papelbon blew his second consecutive save opportunity is frustrating, but should not be a concern. It is common for even the game's top closers to show that they are human. However, the fact that Julio Lugo committed another error which led to two unearned runs early in last night's game is a reason for uneasiness. As it did in the ninth inning of Wednesday's 10-9 loss in ...
Lester, Pappy Can’t Make Offense Stand Up; Twins Rally For 7-6 Win
Jon Lester was lousy… Julio Lugo committed ANOTHER costly error (his eleventh error in six weeks) and Jonathan Papelbon blew his second consecutive save opportunity as the Red Sox fell to the Twins, 7-6, at the Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis. In spite of Lester’s unworthy effort and Lugo’s continuing struggles with the glove, the Sox offense put Papelbon in ...
Another Error for Lugo
Embattled shortstop Julio Lugo, who has voiced displeasure with what he views as the media harping on the negative, provided a little more ammunition along those lines Friday night. Lugo misplayed a routine bouncer right at him in the second inning, a two-out error that paved the way to a pair of unearned runs and a 4-2 Minnesota lead. It was Lugo's major-league-leading 11th error and ...
Game 38: The Blame Game
Final Score: Boston Red Sox 6, Minnesota Twins 7 I've been cursing at Julio Lugo the whole game, ever since he picked up error number eleven by dropping yet another ground ball to short and missing the opportunity to gun down Carlos Gomez for what would have been the third out. Red Sox @ Detroit Tigers Recap
Wow! Did the Sox look good or what in their four-game set with the Detroit Tigers? I mean, they outscored the cats 25-14 and were a Julio Lugo error away from taking out the brooms and sweeping the kitty litter under the tarp. EXCITING BUT FRUSTRATING
A back and forth struggle between the Tigers and Red Sox last night ended in disappointment as a Julio Lugo error and a not-so-sharp Jonathan Papelbon blew a 1 run lead in the 9th. But just look at how much his performances swing up and ...

Lugo Error Blows Game for Sox
The Red Sox and Tigers were engaged in a see-saw battle for much of Wednesday night’s game, with the Tigers eventually prevailing 10-9. Tigers win
Jonathan Papelbon blew tonight's save, with an assist from Julio Lugo's ninth-inning error, as the Tigers took this one 10-9 on Placido Polanco's broken-bat single over the glove of Lugo. Polanco raised his arms over his head in celebration as he made it to first base, Edgar Renteria scoring on the play.
"Leaky" Lugo
Julio Lugo has never been known for playing solid defense at shortstop. This year, he has sprung a bigger leak than usual on the left side. On Sunday he was charged with his ninth error of the season in only his 30th game. Many of his errors have been on poor throws, but he bobbled a ball Sunday. Manager Terry Francona said he and the coaching staff have to remind Lugo to remain ...
