Denver Broncos Offered More For Matt Cassel Than The Chiefs, But Were Turned Down
FanIQ Blog —
... totally possible that this move had already been agreed to by Pioli and Belichick, and then they also were presented with the opportunity to dick over McDaniels in the process, which they did. It works for Belichick, because he doesn't want to see any of his assistants become a better coach than he is, and it helps Pioli because the Broncos are in his division. Something smells pretty rotten in this deal, if you ask me. And I'm not the only one. Jay Mariotti, who I don't really like, thinks the NFL should investigate this trade, and I actually agree. ...
Jay Mariotti Calls Shenanigans On Matt Cassel Trade [Duan!]
Deadspin —
... winning out. There's more, of course, and Mariotti does sound a bit paranoid ... but that doesn't mean people aren't out to get him. Cassel is almost certainly being overrated, but one lousy second-rounder for a guy that other much dumber teams would have gladly overpaid for? Plus another player to fill a roster spot thrown in? It does seem rather generous, especially for New England. Could Jay actually be the voice of reason here? Fascinating, if true. Jay Mariotti Wants NFL to Investigate Chiefs - Pats Trade
Arrowhead Pride —
... team to keep getting younger. Still, all of that is overwhelmed by the fact his deal was with Pioli. It looks like an orchestration, and if the Chiefs recover from a lengthy futility streak that has bottomed out with 23 losses in their last 25 games, you'll be hearing plenty next season about Belichick's grand assist.
Seems to me like Mariotti is a little too parnoid over this whole ordeal, and the other TradeGate rumors just aren't necessary.

Jay Mariotti calls for NFL investigation of Cassel deal
Projo Pats Blog —
Online columnist and TV talking head Jay Mariotti has written that the Patriots' trade of Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel to Scott Pioli's Kansas City Chiefs is a "sweetheart deal" that should be investigated by the National Football League. Mariotti writes: First it was Spygate, the espionage caper that left a permanent cheating smear on [Bill] Belichick's legacy after the Patriots illegally videotaped opponents' defensive signals. Now we have the Pioli Scheme, a suspicion that Belichick's relationship with his close pal and dearly departed partner in dynasty glory, new Chiefs ...

Even Colin Farrell’s performance in In Bruges didn’t make me laugh as much as your column. You’re a funny guy, Borges.

... Belichick is supposed to be some sort of genius but he just gave up a franchise tagged quarterback and a veteran linebacker for a second round pick and I’m not supposed to smell some sort of terrible backhanded deal with his buddy Scott Pioli? I hate agreeing with Jay Mariotti almost as much as I hate reading Rick Reilly’s terrible similes on Twitter (they are really horrendous) but I am pretty much obligated to do so in this situation. Someone in the NFL offices needs to poke their nose around a bit to make sure that there isn’t any collusion going on. Why would ...
