Top NFL Draft Safeties: Build a Secondary Around Kenny Phillips
coryh64 posted 4/25/2008 from mvn.com
Kenny Phillips is what he is. He’s a guy who looked like an elite prospect three years ago, got banged up, and had a disappointing junior season in 2007. He opted not to return for his senior year, and he enters the 2008 draft as the top rated safety prospect. In any other year, Phillips is probably not the top rated safety in the class, so I guess you could say that he made a good decision.Giants get their man, draft Miami safety Kenny Phillips with 31st pick

My take on Kenny Phillips

I loved the Giants' selection of Miami safety Kenny Phillips with their first-round pick, No. 31 overall, Saturday in the NFL Draft. If you frequent this site, you know Phillips is the guy I had been hoping the Giants would target with their first choice. As far as I'm concerned, it worked out perfectly. Phillips comes from Miami, where churning out great safeties is a way of life. See ...Very happy with rounds 1 and 2 of the draft

Kenny Phillips : After losing S Gibril Wilson to FA, the Giants picked up Sammy Knight to help fill the vacancy. Kenny Phillips, a junior out of the University of Miami, will vie for the spot in the strong safety position. Many believe Phillips would have benefited by staying for his senior season, but he was rated as one of the top 2, if not best, safety in the draft, along with Tyrell ...2008 NFL Draft: 1.31 Kenny Phillips, S, New York Giants

Giants fans waited a long time to hear their team’s first pick; but I’m most would agree it was worth the wait. The defending Super Bowl champs biggest need was at safety because Gibril Wilson left for Oakland in free agency. As it turned out, the Giants landed the top safety on the board in Miami’s Kenny Phillips . Phillips has all the tools: size, speed, tackling ability, ...A run on WRs

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley Giants fans were thrilled with the Kenny Phillips pick. They needed a safety, Phillips should be able to play immediately. He didn't have a great final season at Miami, but I think he'll actually be an upgrade for the Giants. The Dolphins added an edge rusher in Clemson's Phillip Merling. Some teams were scared off by his sports hernia, but I think he ...Giants select S Kenny Phillips in 1st round

Another good pick here for the Giants as they take the best safety on the board with the final pick in the first round. Phillips will be asked to step in part for Gibril Wilson as a rookie. Phillips isn’t going to be the next great safety from the U, but he is a very good pick from a school with a history of producing them. Giants: 5 points Trippiedi’s Best Available ...G-men

Nice pick with Kenny Phillips....they were in need of a safety....I was surprised the Dolphins did not go with a QB to open round 2....Thank you Lord...

Kenny Phillips. I don't know what's better... a) The Jets sucking ass. b) The Giants being smart, and taking a play making safety. He will immediate compete to start with overrated Sammy Knight. Awesome. The Dolphins then select Phillip Merling. That is a great pick. He wasn't supposed fall this far, and he will add to a defense that is beginning to come together. Bill Parcells, smart guy.Pick #31, New York Giants - Kenny Phillips, S, Miami

Finally, we pull someone from the U. I love when they introduce themselves on Monday Night Football. The Giants picked a safety which was definitely their need, and seriously, Kenny Phillips is a solid, solid football name. It elicited all sorts of cheers from the fans in the stands, which was nice to see. The best sign came on the previous pick though, from what I believe was a Giants fan. "The31. The University of Miami had a first-round draft pick after all, just sneaking in when the Giants chose safety Kenny Phillips with the final pick of Round 1. Phillips is a good player, but his best season was his sophomore season, and a lot of analysts thought he had dropped out of the first round with a disappointing 2007 season. The Giants likely see Phillips as a player who can start as a ...And the Cowboys....

Select Mike Jenkins. This is awesome for me, mainly because it's free sailing for Kenny Phillips. I like Jenkins alot, and think he'll be a solid corner. All the physcial tools, need to refine his coverage skills.Friday Fungoes
