MLB: Kershaw could be called up to bigs
Published 5/23/2008 at BBTF's Baseball Primer Newsblog
MLB: Kershaw could be called up to bigs Hot Diggity! Dodgers phenom left-hander Clayton Kershaw had the kind of start for Double-A Jacksonville on Thursday night that will only fuel speculation he’s about to become a Major Leaguer. Kershaw faced three Carolina Mudcats, struck out two, then was yanked by manager John Shoemaker, completely healthy. By starting Thursday night, Kershaw is on schedule to start again Tuesday, which happens to be the next time the Dodgers need a fifth starter in Chicago. But it could be sooner than that. By throwing only one inning and a pregame ...
Kershaw To Be Called Up?
Published 5/23/2008 by Eli (noreply@blogger.com) at MLB Rumors
Dodgers top pitching prospect Clayton Kershaw was pulled after just one inning, suggesting that he is on his way to the majors. Kershaw is 0-3 with a 2.28 ERA in Double-A, but he has not gotten the run support needed to put wins on the board. Having thrown one inning of baseball with pregame warm ups, it is possible to see him pitch Saturday, giving Brad Penny an extra day of rest. Kershaw was taken in the first round of the 2006 draft and has risen fast in the Dodgers system. However, he has only played in forty-four games in his minor league career, compiling a 10-10 record. Spending more time in Double or Triple-A would definitely help in the long run, but the Dodgers are desperate for a ...
Kershaw alert: Time to see if that cabin has wireless

So Clayton Kershaw was yanked after one inning Thursday. Ineffective? Hardly. Let's go to the Jacksonvill-Carolina play-by-play, because frankly Andy Behrens wouldn't have us tell the story any other way: -John Raynor strikes out swinging
-Cameron Maybin grounds out to first baseman Mark Bellhorn
-Chris Coghlan strikes out swinging, catcher Lucas May to first baseman Mark Bellhorn
One inning, two strikeouts and no balls out of the infield. Pretty tidy work. And Kershaw left healthy, which kicked off speculation that he's being saved for a Tuesday major league debut.
Tuesday happens to be the next time the Dodgers ...

Kershaw getting called up?
Published 5/23/2008 by Eric Stashin at Rotoprofessor
Clayton Kershaw After pitching just 1 innings in his start for the AA Jacksonville Suns last night, speculation is running wild that Dodgers super prospect Clayton Kershaw is on the verge of getting called up. On mlb.com (click here for the article), they are saying that the Dodgers will need a fifth starter on Tuesday, which happens to be the next day Kershaw would be due to start, after his abbreviated game last night. They also say that the team will be in need of a fifth starter from then through the All Star Break, for the most part. Kershaw is one of the top prospects in all of baseball and he has backed up that status thus far this season. Despite being 0-3, he’s posted a 2.28 ERA over ...
Clayton Kershaw Time?

Looks like phenom Clayton Kershaw may debut in Chicago on Tuesday. The 20 year-old has these numbers in Double A:
43.3 IP 9 starts 2.28 ERA 1.08 WHIP 9.76 K/9 3.12 BB/9 3.13 K/BB 6.65 H/9 .291 BABIP 0.00 HR/9
In an early Kerry Wood sort of way, it's likely that Kershaw will have a strong WHIP even if control is worse than average. That's because he'll be very tough to hit. He has ace stuff.
I can't tell you what kind of adjustment period Kershaw will need. Try to look at the bigger picture if he struggles at first. He's skipping Triple A by design, but he's still ...
