Brandon Roy (nearly) gets defensive
Published 5/12/2008 by Sean Meagher, OregonLive.com at Blazers Blog - OregonLive.com
The NBA announced its All-Defensive teams today . No Blazers on the list of first or second teams. No surprise. But, Brandon Roy did receive two votes. That means he a better defender than the following: Andre Miller, Philadelphia, 1; Andres Nocioni, Chicago, 1; Baron Davis, Golden State, 1; Caron Butler, Washington, 1; Chris Bosh, Toronto, 1; Dikembe Mutombo, Houston, 1; Josh Howard, Dallas, 1; Richard Hamilton, Detroit, 1; Ronnie Brewer, Utah, 1. Ask Carmelo Anthony about Roy's defense ( ...

Shane Battier: Being kicked while he's down
Published 5/12/2008 by grungedave (noreply@blogger.com) at The Dream Shake - a Houston Rockets blog
... The NBA released the names of the 2008 "All Defensive Team" this afternoon... as I anxiously awaited seeing Shane's name finally and deservedly included among the members of the First Team. So... what the hell happened? NBA awards voters screwed the pooch. Again. Look, it was bad enough that Shane wasn't named DPOY to begin with. We all know he should have been the recipient of that award and that it ended up being a consolation prize to KG for not getting the MVP. Fine... but Shane being only 3rd (behind Marcus F'n Camby?) was a total joke. I thought that was the ...

My first annual NBA No-Defense team, starring Nash, Carmelo and Al Jefferson
Published 5/12/2008 by Tim Kawakami at Kawakami
No surprise: I love the NBA All-Defensive Team. Love the idea, love the voting, love to analyze it and memorize it and oh yes, it just was announced today . I also think it’s hilarious that Baron Davis got one coach’s vote. I don’t care if it was for eighth team, that just shouldn’t happen. (It wasn’t Don Nelson since coaches can’t vote for their own players.) But I was thinking more could be done in this fashion. I’m always typing about how good defenders are so important to winning basketball and how Bad Defenders kill you. Hmm, I thought to myself. How hard would it be to ...

Quick Thoughts 5/12-5/13

-Congrats to Kobe on getting his 8th All NBA Defensive team nod. Other first teamers include Timmy!, KG, Marcus Camby, as well as Bruce Bowen. A notable exception from the first team is Shane Battier, who for whatever reason was I left off of some ballots. -An open request to Mike Brown. Please, do not start each set with LeBron on the elbow extended or dribbling the ball up. Thank you. -Any playoff matchup have a more underwhelming coaching matchup ...

Taking offense with the All-Defensive Teams
Published 5/13/2008 at Ball Don't Lie
Is anyone out there in NBA Blog Land happy about this year's All-Defensive Team selections? The Dream Shake — a Houston Rockets blog — is furious that Shane Battier was left off the First Team again, Pickaxe and Roll — a Denver Nuggets blog — is baffled that Marcus Camby made the cut, and Talking Points — a Golden State Warriors blog — can't believe Baron Davis received a vote.

The Lakers limp home tied with Utah 2-2

The Lakers limped back to Los Angeles after losing Sunday in Utah 123-115 in overtime. Fans got a glimpse of what Kobe Bryant will look like if he stays in the league until he’s 45 years old. Kobe tweaked a back muscle early in the game and couldn’t play the game the way he normally does. He shot multiple air-balls, couldn’t get back on defense and didn’t have any lift when he jumped.
