Departure of Yzerman and Shanahan key to Red Wings’ Run?
Published 5/17/2007 by Dave at Gorilla Crouch
... Bill over at Abel to Yzerman commented last summer about a brief conversation a reader of his blog had with Mike Babcock at an airport. The question surrounding the team at that time was whether Yzerman would return for another season or retire. So the guy asked Babcock whether he thought Yzerman would return. Babcock, in a comment that has come up quite a bit in his press conferences lately, asked the person if they wanted to hear the answer that would appeal to their heart or their head? In press conferences Babcock tells the reporter he would have one answer if they were off the record or having a beer.

Leave it to the Red Wings to respond to their one major personnel loss (Mathieu Schnieder to Anaheim) by picking up Brian Rafalski, who's a Michigan native to boot. Expect him to enjoy the best season of his career playing on a blue line with Nicklas Lidstrom. Anyone else who left town, in particular Todd Bertuzzi, Kyle Calder and Robert Lang, is simply a matter of addition by subtraction. And while there will always be questions raised about Dominik Hasek, Chris Osgood is more than good enough to plug the gaps as long as "The Dominator" isn't on the shelf for too long. … Overall, a very good game for the Wings, who seem to get a kick out of playing Eastern Conference teams, as this and their game against the Lightning were two of their best all season. With Kronwall out, Chelios will take on more responsibility and play more minutes. I can’t see Babcock putting Meech with Lebda very often, though, so there will probably be some rotation that second pairing. If Meech is out there, expect to see Chelios with him.
Dominik Hasek is scheduled to start tonight.

Ducks Gameday—Finally, a WCF rematch
Published 2/10/2008 by Earl Sleek at The Battle of California
... All year, the Chief at A2Y has been maintaining, probably with more faith than I've shown, that the west will come down to the Wings and "the Fowl" this spring. For a while, that seemed a bit foolish to say, as the Ducks floundered aimlessly for stretches, but as the plan has come together, it's not so far-fetched as it once was. Certainly it's still a longshot—there are lots of teams in the west to be wary of—but if both teams play to their potential, it would be one hell of a series. ...
