Brent Celek's "Captain" Pose Was Part of "Guerrilla-Style Advertising Campaign"
The700Level.com - Philly Sports & Minutiae —
Brent Celek's touchdown celebration in which he demonstrated he does in fact have a little Captain in him was received with mixed feelings. Personally, I thought nothing of it. If you score a TD for the Eagles, you can do anything you want for all I care as long as it doesn't cost your fifteen yards (which Celek's celebration actually did thanks to Jason ...

League shipwrecks Captain Morgan campaign
Captain Morgan may have pulled off the quietest and shortest-lived advertising ambush in sports history last Sunday. One that was almost universally unknown, barely noticed, and yet, promptly squashed by the NFL this week.
Captain Morgan intended to offer lucrative charity contributions in exchange for each instance a player was caught on camera doing its pose during a game. The contributions were earmarked for the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund – a non-profit ...
The No Fun League strikes again
The Couch Potato Chronicles —
What is it with the NFL these days? They act as if their players aren't allowed to celebrate anything at all. Philadelphia Eagles' tight end Brent Celek has reportedly caused a controversy by doing a "Captain Morgan" pose after scoring a touchdown in last Monday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. ...

League strikes down Captain Morgan pose
ProFootballTalk.com —
On Sunday night, Eagles tight end Brent Celek struck the Captain Morgan pose after scoring a touchdown during Philly's 20-16 loss to the Cowboys. As it turns out, Celek's stunt was intended to be the first act in a much broader marketing ploy. Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports reports that the league has slammed the door ...
NFL Quashes Guerrilla Campaign
TheScore.com Blog —
A guerrilla marketing campaign, that is. You may have noticed during last Sunday’s Eagles-Cowboys game that, when Philadelphia tight end Brent Celek scored a third quarter touchdown, he struck a very Captain Morgan-like pose. That’s because, according to Yahoo Sports, he actually was doing the pose. “In hopes of raising brand awareness, Captain Morgan intended to offer lucrative charity contributions in exchange for each instance a player was caught on camera doing its pose during a game,” says the report. “The contributions were earmarked for the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund – a non-profit which ...

You may not have thought anything of it at the time, but now you'll understand why you spent the rest of the night craving a glass of spiced rum.

They could just write a check, but then how would anyone find out about the awesome sexy female-slaying powers that simply holding a glass of Captain Morgan bestows upon even the schlubbiest alcoholic? I'm not sure the four mind-numbing commercials an hour during every televised sporting event will keep them covered. P.S. Please be a Captain responsibly. He Had TOO Much Captain in Him
The Slanch Report —
In Sunday’s Eagles/Cowboys contest tight end Brent Celek scored a touchdown in the third quarter, to celebrate he squared himself perfectly in the camera’s lens and posed a la the recent Captain Morgan’s Rum commercials with one leg up on an imaginary cask of rum. The No-Fun-League was less than pleased.

Hot Clicks: Octagon Girls; NFL bans Capatain Morgan celebration
SI.com - Extra Mustard —
... I've always believed that one of the worst things about the NFL and college football is the ban on celebrations. I say dance, strike poses, use props, do whatever you want. To say both leagues feel the complete opposite, though, would be a huge understatement. In the NFL's latest quest to outlaw anyone providing some entertainment, the league has shut down a savvy marketing campaign by Captain Morgan -- which was for charity! The company was going to donate $10,000 to the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund each time a player was caught on camera doing the Captain ...

No Fun League: “But when the NFL caught wind of the plan this week, it promptly put the brakes on the promotion, notifying Gridiron Greats and Captain Morgan that it wouldn’t tolerate the pose during NFL games. And while [Brent] Celek won’t be fined for doing it Sunday, a league source also told Yahoo! Sports that striking the pose in future games will result in a ’significant’ penalty.” In other NFL fine news, Chad Ocho Cinco was fined $20,000. Not just the “joke” $1 bribe … but for using the word “bribe” afterward. [Yahoo Sports]
The Initial Assessment: The Final 8

The Jets had a shot to beat Miami in their second meeting but once again failed not because of poor planning no, (I’m almost certain Ryan took care of that after the Wildcat embarassed the defense previously) but because Special Teams could not stop Ted Ginn Jr. from running back two touchdowns 100 and 101 yards respectively while giving Jay Feely a chance to play defender.
Although the offense had an oppertunity to win the game, between poor execution (at some points) and Miami’s defense really clamping down to protect their win, the Jets would fall victim to the fish once again. Despite the Jets heading into the BYE at 4-4 they ...

I didn’t see all of the Cowboys-Eagles game a couple Sundays ago so I missed the sneaky advertising gimmick. Cute idea, so of course the NFL put the kibosh on it.
Had this not been shut down, what other products do you think could use an end zone celebration as advertising?
- You could have a couple bathtubs in the endzone. Works best when it’s a Romo to Witten TD: Cialis
